We all know the feeling. Pure, unadulterated fear. When that pit begins to form in your stomach and your chest tightens. Your heart is racing and your breath catches in your throat. That chill that washes over your body from the tip of your toes, all the way up to the top of your head. Your hands trembling every cell in your body telling you to get out. That feeling when you can hardly speak as your body decides on its own how it's going to escape whatever danger lies before you. We sometimes get that feeling telling stories here of dark entities and terrifying nightmares. But if you’ve spent much time here with us at Ghosteas, then you know there are plenty of fears that we have between the two of us. One that we share and have talked about countless times is thalassophobia, or a fear of large bodies of water.
Now that the warmer months are upon us, at least for us on this side of the world, I thought it would be appropriate to combine some of our fears – the unknown, the dark, the paranormal, the ocean – and tell stories of hauntings at sea. I’ve gathered several stories from around the web of people who have experienced some unnerving encounters while out on the ocean. We have everything from suspected ghosts, unknown creatures in the depths, aliens above the open waters, and I even threw in a few creepy tales that have nothing to with the paranormal but still gave me that uneasy feeling in my gut. For those of you planning those beach vacations, this is for you…
Also, a huge shoutout to our patrons who helped pick this topic. This option literally blew the rest out of the water this month!
