Today, we highlight Saint Thomas Aquinas' five remedies for sadness. Aquinas identifies four types of sorrow—pity, anxiety, envy, and torpor—and offers practical, counter-cultural solutions. These remedies include indulging in pleasures, allowing oneself to cry, sharing sorrows with friends, contemplating truth, and rest- emphasizing the timelessness and relevance of Aquinas's wisdom for overcoming sadness in every stage of life.
