All of us face challenges to our hope.  Sometimes these challenges come from directions we least suspect.  Sometimes we might not even realize our hope is being challenged.  We know we want something but don't quite know where to look.  Sometimes we also attempt to fool ourselves into believing things are going great while in reality, our life is a dumster fire.

My guest in this episode is a remarkable woman named Ana Murby.  Ana grew up in an environment that should have been supportive.  Yet something was missing.  Unfortunately in her search for hope, she turned in wrong directions and had to deal with the consequences of poor choices.

Unfortunately, all of us face tragedy in life to some degree.  My guest in this podcast experienced the heartbreaking loss of a son. Chandler was a young man full of life with a bright future.  He was the kind of young man all parents wished for.  He was healthy, full of life, loved his family deeply, and was loved and appreciated by many. Then one day tragedy struck, and Chandler lost his life in a traffic accident.

 My guest and new friend, Lisa Espenoza, is Chandlers mom.  She shares her thoughts and actions with us as she worked to recover from her loss.  We discuss how she turned this tragedy into a way to help others get back into life.  The emptiness will always be there but so is the joy of the wonderful memories of her son.  So too is the joy she has as she helps others recover.

 Lisa is an author, coach, and speaker engaged with helping others overcome loss.  She has a blog where she shares her thoughts and experiences.  She also wrote an engaging book called, “First Brush Your Teeth.”  This is a memoir that came out of heartbreak and efforts to regain hope as she daily processed her grief.

There are many ways to help bring hope to others.  Perhaps we have a close relationship and can encourage.  Perhaps we know someone that can help when a person’s hope is challenged.  There are so many ways to plant seeds for our Lord.

Challenges to hope come in many different forms and from directions we might not expect.  And sometimes those challenges to hope can become encouragements and enhancement to hope. 

In this episode I chat with a new friend, Kim Stilp.  Kim has a compelling story to tell about her son informing them that he was gay.  The family went through a myriad of emotions, including shame and fear.  

Kim shares how she grew closer to her son through this challenge.  Now she is dedicated to helping others facing this situation to continue to love their child while also maintaining their faith.  She gives excellent insights that all of us can learn from.

There are so many questions, concerns, or just life issues that we face as parents.  And just when we think we’re home free, looking to the great times, issues are behind us that we get hit with something devastating.  We have no idea where it comes from.  There’s usually a feeling of what have I done wrong.  Perhaps nothing.  

In this episode I have a conversation with Debbie McNinch about her insights into children dealing with the transgender issue.  She is dealing with it in real time with one of her children.

Debbie offers heart felt insights as a parent of a transgender child.  She offers sound advice for parents, grandparents, or even friends.  She speaks to having a battle plan as we counter the attack on our children.

Debbie has written an excellent book called, “Battle Cry – Love Goes to War.”  It is available through her web site and on Amazon.  In the book she gives details on how to develop a battle plan and put it into action.  It is a war, not a skirmish.  And like a war, sometimes it may take a long time.  

The 5 elements of her battle plan are Worship, Word, Pray, Declare, and Community.  She gives the details of these in her book.

It is easy to feel our hope is challenged when we receive a devestating diagnosis of a chronic or deadly disease.  Some even give up hope.  But it doesn't have to be that way.  We can find hope, perhaps especially during these times if we are looking in the right direction.  

In this episode I am speaking with Drew Kizer.  Drew is relatively young and received the diagnosis of Parkenson's Disease.  He offers us insights into how he deals with sustaining, and even growing in hope and how we can help others in this as well.

There are many different situations in life that some might consider a challenge to hope.  And perhaps they are in some ways.  But sometimes what others think of as a challenge to hope turns out to be a wonderful enhancement to their life.

In this episode I have a conversation with my niece Rene Whitt.  Rene and her husband Eric adopted a beautiful baby named Tylee.  Tylee was diagnosed with Down Syndrome.  Where some might be troubled with this, they embraced the opportunity to share love.  They’ve been rewarded in many ways as a result.

Friends, this is my 100th podcast episode published.  Thank you for listening.  The support and encouragement from so many is deeply appreciated.

One of the joys I experience with my podcast is meeting new friends.  I've discovered there are many wonderful people with amazing talents and stories to tell.  One such person is my new friend, Shara Goswick.  Shara has a podcast herself called, "Life Stories."  It looks at how people are helping other people.  The link to her podcast and other related information is below.

Something that Shara and I share is that we feel compelled to help others whose hope is being challenged in ways we are familiar with or have experienced in some way ourselves.  We encourage others to do the same.  We look at what we have and what we can do and determine how we can use it to help others.  That's how we grow in hope.  We look outside ourselves at what we can do for others.
