Last week, my body completely crashed. Like I’m talking, could barely get my head off the pillow in the middle of the day type of crash. Genuinely concerned that something was wrong with me, I asked his nurse about it and she just smiled and said it was very common for parents to crash at the end of treatment - to which I responded with some big ol fat tears.

It’s the entire year catching up at once. We’re no longer running to hospital appointments every other day, planning for the scheduled over-night stays or mentally preparing for the unplanned ones. It’s been almost a year of mental, physical and spiritual stretching.

And as quickly as it started - it’s finished....I’m going to keep podcasting and sharing what God is doing. I’m excited to share more of the tools and practical ways I have stayed in His word and been equipped for this season. This is the story of my sweet 12 year old, Bronson, and his fight against brain cancer.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to hear the words “your child has cancer” and walk through those first shocking days and weeks, you can go back and listen to episodes 1–6. That’s where I share about the day we found his tumor, his emergency surgery, the diagnosis, and the four long weeks we spent in the hospital—what we called phase one. Phase two took us to the U.S. for eight intense weeks of treatment—30 days of combined chemo and radiation. It was brutal, and honestly, that’s exactly what it was meant to be. Bronson’s type of cancer is regenerative, which means it can grow back and so the goal was to wipe it out completely. Those weeks left him underweight, exhausted, and constantly sick to his stomach. But after the hardest stretch, we got the best news—his MRI showed amazing progress! There had been tumor left after surgery, but after the chemo and radiation, it was virtually gone. Praise the Lord!

Now we’re stepping into phase three bringing us back home in Canada.

Most families split up when travel is required for medical care. But after Bronson, our 11 year old son, was diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer, we were determined to stay together as a family. Since Canada did not offer the best type of radiation for Bronson’s cancer, all six of us were headed to the US...

Bronson recently had an MRI and as we left the hospital he said something I will never forget...

FOUR years ago, I released my first Bible-Study and this is the video I posted to promote it. It’s emotional watching myself 4 years ago - clueless as to what was coming for our family. Childhood cancer was NO where on my radar.

At the time I was trying to figure out what to do with this desire in my heart to help others get into the Bible regularly. I didn’t have a theology degree. I wasn’t formerly trained. I just knew I was experiencing God more than I had before and I wanted everyone else to experience Him, too!

But looking back, knowing how my life was about to change, do you know what I would say to my younger self ?

Keep going.Yes, it feels awkward and not everyone will get it, but it’s a worthwhile fight.

I can confidently say that reading my Bible daily has had a HUGE impact in how I am dealing with Bronson’s cancer diagnosis and treatment process.

Psalm 112:7 says, “He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord”. I can testify that God CAN do this in our lives! There have been some really hard moments and we aren’t out of the woods yet, but I can honestly say I trust God will carry us through. That is my testimony!

Knowing God and being in the habit of meeting with Him every day has prepared me to handle even the toughest days and the worst news.

We are looking at...

Sometimes it takes the rubber meeting the road to expose what you really believe about God. All of a sudden, all those years sitting comfortably in a church pew, singing songs, taking notes and preaching about a God who loves felt … easy. What does it really mean to have ‘victory in Jesus’ when you’re sitting in a hospital room as your 11 year old child fights cancer.

The reality was, Bronson had a brain tumor. It was large. He needed surgery right away.

Sam and I were running on adrenaline, coffee and almost no sleep when they prepped Brons for surgery at 6am. We had been prepared for a variety of outcomes - specifically, Posterior Fossa Syndrome (PFS): a condition that can occur after pediatric tumor removal, specifically when the tumor is located exactly where Bronson’s was. This syndrome has a range of symptoms like reduced or loss of speech, lack of muscle coordination, and behavioral changes (to name a few). It can be quite awful. And although it is not necessarily permanent, the rehab can take weeks if not months.

After praying with Bronson, it was go-time. We walked out of the pre-op room leaving our precious 11 year old in the hands of capable strangers. We felt numb. Slowly, we made our way off the surgery floor to the cafeteria where we would wait for news.
