  • OUR 112: Chris Dowell, Jordan Todd Brown & Michelle Bodkin (Rivals.com)

The semester is almost up and I’m glad to say we got in a guest I was wanting for a while. If you’ve listened to the show you know we drive deep into the standup comedy world. This week Chris Dowell joins our crew. Chris is a comic who has hit just about every stage, bar, coffee shop, or lounge with a plugged in mic. He shares some of the times he and I spent in the “wild west” days of tough open mics in places that were dark and dingy. Chris has been a staple on the scene the last few years but sometimes he does a little something different in his standup act. That something is a musical element. Chris displays his musical talents on the guitar for us in a most unique way. An original comedy driven singing melody kind of unique way, a must listen if I must say. Chris is a very prepared dude and he gives us insight into how he goes about taking his thoughts and all the steps needed before they make it to a stage. The most interesting thing to me is how an individual makes the funny in their own particular way. Lend your ears to find a little about how Chris puts it all together.

The Utah Ute football season is heading to its major finish. The Las Vegas bowl, that’s the grand finale. On paper the Utes look very strong against Colorado State, but is it just a glorified scrimmage or should we be cautious about loading up our confetti guns? Michelle Bodkin tells fans what they need to know about Colorado St. The Utes have had an up and down season and any other team would be proud of, but this is the PAC-12 and we’ve come to expect more. More in the sense of a solid bowl win. Michelle and her Ute crazy family will be in attendance of the big game. Going to the big game by hitting the road, expect details and find out the dish leading up the final 60 minutes.

  • OUR 111: Abigail Harrison

Who’s joining us today? Abigail Harrison, that’s who! What’s up with Abby, well that’s a question a lot of people want to know. She’s creative, unique, and has a voice unlike most comedians you’ve seen. We get to sit down and have a long conversation about her recent trip to New York to perform comedy and how her Mormon upbringing crosses over to the east coast crowd. We talk about motherhood. Abby speaks about her hopes and concerns for her young son. It’s scary to think that this interview almost didn’t happen due a scheduling conflict blamed on someone who’s yet to be named.

The heavy parenting talk continues in the second segment as Sascha and I dive into what it was like to be a parent.

Certainly a subject that we’ll touch on more, but for now give a listen and let it go where it goes.

  • OUR 110: Andy Gold, Christian Pieper & Michelle Bodkin (Rivals.com)

It’s come to this. Christian Pieper and Andy Gold join the Ol’ Ute crew for a round of pure untethered, and off the rails banter. Andy tells us his Tinder strategy and Christian lets us know the details on his upcoming comedy show.
If that’s not enough Andy lights the comedy bridge on fire as he engages in full on social media war. These are two of Salt Lake comedy’s Varsity so you gotta be quick with the likes of the C Pipes and Andy G. We get a Marty Archibald update, we hear about Andy’s trip to Tucson, and Christian gives us a teaser of the big names on his Sunday show. Turn this one way up.
The Ute football season is coming to an end but Michelle Bodkin gives us a little hint of the Bowl game hopes and the overall Ute identity as a football team this year. Oh and Christian and Andy sit in with Michelle and go toe to toe with football knowledge and then decide to take the train completely off the rails. How far off the rails you ask, listen to find out because there’s no turning back with this dream team. I guarantee your head won’t be the same. Its scary people you might need to wear a helmet for this one.

  • OUR 109: Jacob Leigh and Rivals.com_Michelle Bodkin

    http://earwholemedia.com/wp-content/audio/ol-ute-radio/OUR_Ep109.mp3
What’s going on this week in the Ol’ Ute Studio? Jacob Leigh, that’s what’s going on. He’s headlining Dec. 4 at Wiseguys Comedy Club. The man has a lot to say and he lends us an insight into how he’s progressed from an open mic’er to headlining potential. How he writes and what he hopes for his growth in comedy are on the table. Also Jacob throws down some serious movie knowledge. He’s got the goods when it comes to Pauly Shore flicks and Mrs. Doubtfire. All useful talents but can he handle the wrath of the Movie Grudge match? Will anyone de-throne the long standing leader Jason Harvey? I can tell you this. You need to listen to the man’s ability to nail a classic movie line.

Ok, it’s alright people. Michelle Bodkin is here to nurse us back to good health about the Utes and how the air may have been let out of our dream season but there’s still hope. Hope for a good bowl game and hope to close out the season strong. Maybe they lost a few games but you have to play the whistle and there’s one game left. What’s the prediction for the Colorado match up, will the leaders find the magic again, and where are the Ute’s going for their Bowl game? Also what cartoon character got referenced way too much during last week’s game? Find out sports fans.

  • OUR 108: Michelle Bodkin (Rivals.com), Seth Tippets & Jackson Banks

Today on the show Michelle Bodkin tells us how the dream season is still alive. The Utes are a grind it out kind of team, so listen to find out how they approach Arizona this Saturday in the final home game which also happens to be senior day. Special uniforms are lock and loaded. Coming off a needed win against the Stanford Cardinal Michelle explains the unusual nature of their band and I explain how all stadiums should be judged by their concessions stands.
Things quickly get out of control as per usual when the rambunctious Jackson Banks joins in for the last part of the show. He’s accompanied by his merry gang which includes Seth Tippets this time. Tippets comes out swinging and lets us know how he got his most recent role as “Glen Guglia” in the recent production of “The Wedding Singer” the musical.
Jackson has just gotten back from Boston flexing his comedy talents. What happened there? He tells us of a most unusual experience involving the ladies. He’s not one to spare the details so find out his exact situation before it changes again. You’ll love it, I swear.

  • OUR 107: Amerah Ames & Michelle Bodkin (Rivals.com)

The show is back. We were off last week but we’re here and full of steam. Our first guest this week is Amerah Ames. I’ve seen her starting to go around the open mic scene and wanted to talk to her some. She’s young, wears funky sweaters, is a student at the U. If you’ve seen her do stand up in small bits around town here’s a chance to hear her speak a little more about growing up, interests in film and music and her goals in comedy.
So I got to thinking, how do you check out the new comers to the standup scene? Monday nights, right here at the university Student Union Theater show starts at 7:30. Its low key and you can watch comics work out ideas and grow into something bigger. Tuesday night, Mo’s Diner is the place to be. Comedy, free form, and who knows what you might see. It’s fun. Wednesday is open night at Wiseguys Comedy Club. This is a traditional open mic. A great stage for: new comics, veteran comics, food and drink. Check them out people, there’s folks flexing comedy biceps in this town.
It’s been a tough two weeks for the Utah Utes they have lost back to back weeks against top 25 teams. I knew it would be tough but I thought we’d get one out of two. It didn’t happen, that’s sports though. Michelle Bodkin joins ’OUR,’ to tell us the injury report and her thoughts for the Stanford game this week. She’ll be at the game as a fan and I make a very unique wardrobe suggestion for her future game appearances. Will she take my idea? Listen in. Find out the Ute inside track and get your knowledge straight for the upcoming game.
