Today's guest is Rebecca from SolCups. She is an extremely intelligent, passionate and vibrant woman successfully making a positive impact on the planet we live on.

Rebecca preciously worked in the fitness industry. She was incredibly passionate about helping and supporting people through her work,  until she suddenly became ill with an autoimmune condition. Due to her condition, she was bed bound for almost 2 years! During this time, SolCups was born.

Her most current venture Sol Products aims to reach out and share her knowledge of health to as many people as possible. Sol Products are sustainable, environmentally friendly and healthy, they are chemical free, hand blown glass reusable coffee cups! For optimistic drinkers and half full thinkers.

She has also recently created a new business, more of a passion project, coaching clients ,specifically in product based businesses, to educate and inspire others on their journey of small business success. With mentoring available, she assist you on your journey from start up to global expansion.

She is now the co-founder of her latest Company, Beauty by Australia, where they source vegan, natural, ethical, sustainable and cruelty free beauty products, curated to perfection. In hope to produce their own incredible range soon!

Welcome to episode 1 of season 3! 
In the first episode I was privileged enough to speak to Heidi, the founder of Earth Greetings.

Back in 2003, inspired by her joy for nature, she wondered if we could find more enlightened ways to live, work and create. Where businesses could operate as a model for good, to help heal the Earth and restore these precious wild places.

She had a few years experience working in the publishing industry in her early 20's, witnessing wasteful print practices first hand. The books and stationery were not made from recycled paper, and she would hold her nose when she visited the printing press because it smelled so toxic. She also noticed that there were very few greeting cards produced using recycled paper, so she thought that producing recycled paper products sustainably would be a good place to start! So she quit my dreary office job, to start an Earth friendly greeting card and stationery business.

Earth Greetings collaborate with talented artists inspired by Australian native flora and fauna, to create beautiful cards and gifts with the lightest possible planetary footprint. Sales of our products enable us to donate to organisations that help native wildlife survive habitat loss and climate change.

I had such a great chat with Michael, the founder and CEO of UPPAREL. Michael, is a innovative, forward thinker, who is incredibly passionate about creating a circular economy. 

UPPAREL are  driven by making an impact, doing things their way, and most importantly starting something. Pioneers of the sock and underwear subscription model in Australia, they have become increasingly concerned about the long-term impact of textiles on our world. That’s why they have shifted from making clothes to playing a lead role in upcycling and shaping the circular economy, through their circular fashion model.

Their motto is to,  'move mountains, not make more'. That’s why they are stepping up and leading the change for future generations. Their mission is to divert textiles and clothing away from landfill and accelerate the global textile recycling industry towards a sustainable future.

I had the privilege to chat to Adrian, one of the founders of BlockTexx. 
Adrian is a seasoned retail veteran with over thirty years’ experience in major retailers in the UK and Australia. He has held multiple senior roles, including CEO of APG, owner of iconic brands Sportscraft and Saba. He has a deep and thorough knowledge of sourcing, supply chain and product development in the textile industry. He is a ‘dyed in the wool’ retailer, who loves the fashion industry.

As both an industry participant and consumer, Adrian has realised that the industry is both ready for and needs positive and real change. He observed the tension of trying to continue to grow consumption without dealing with the waste we produce, and this is where BlockTexx can make a significant contribution to the fashion model, converting textile waste into resource.

In this episode, I was lucky enough to speak with the found of Zero Co, Mike. I heard about his amazing journey around our beautiful planet, and what inspired him to create Zero Co.

His mission is to 'un-trash the planet by stopping the production of new single use plastic and by cleaning up the plastic junking our ocean.'

Their reusable refill pouches are made from plastic waste diverted from landfill and are designed to be refilled and reused over and over and over again. Every refill equals one less new-plastic-bottle being made, used once and thrown away.

Their dispensers are made from plastic rubbish that they have pulled out of the ocean, beaches and landfill. So far they have removed over 6,000kg of plastic rubbish from the ocean. That’s the equivalent of more than 500,000 water bottles worth of plastic that we’ve already pulled from the sea.

Did you know that 21 million tonnes of plastic flows into our oceans every year. That’s one truck of garbage every minute. Single-use plastic is the main culprit!!

Their goal is to collect 21 tonnes of Aussie ocean bound waste and turn it into our forever bottles.

I had the opportunity to chat to an incredible, intelligent and innovative business woman who looks outside the mainstream marketing chaos and focuses on making her brand authentic and sustainable.

I would like you to meet Anna Ross, founder of Kester Black.
Growing up on a farm in the lush hinterland of New Zealand, Anna Ross hugged trees as much as she did her mother. Her passion for natural beauty led her to create Australia’s most ethical beauty brand, Kester Black – the first of its kind with B Corp certification (aka the official hat-tip to nice people, doing nicer things for the environment).

Inspired by her natural heritage, with Kester Black Anna is initiating a new code of ethics for cosmetics that other brands can follow – there’s a lot of catch-up to do, yet.

I came across todays guest on Instagram, and knew immediately I needed her on my podcast. Her passion for the planet, ocean and people is evident, and I loved listening to her journey in creating  Go For Zero.
She began my toxin-free and sustainable journey when her newborn (Gracie) developed rashes using ‘mainstream’ skincare products. Determined to help her daughter, she dedicated her time to research product labelling. She was horrified to discover how many harmful ingredients regular hygiene- and household items contained.

When she researched and tested toxin-free products, she saw a high amount of vendors still producing top quality products in plastic containers. This created a sore spot in her heart and fire in her belly to only provide products that are safe for you and our planet.

I was lucky enough to speak with two incredible women in this episode. Emily, the co founder of KYND Scent and Jocelyn, the creator behind the beautiful perfume. Have you ever purchased an item such as a drill, or a tent and only used it once or twice? Where do these items end up when you are done with them? Gathering dust, or in landfill?

When I came across the Sharing Shed Melbourne, I was so excited to learn more about this concept. I chatted with Joe, one of their amazing team members. Joe comes from a digital and technology background, he works on their website and the digital systems. He also works for an International Aid charity  that helps Pacific Islands adapt to the changes of climate.

So what is the Sharing Shed?
Sharing Shed Melbourne is a not-for-profit, community run library of things. Members pay an annual membership fee to borrow a range of donated goods; from lawnmowers to camping gear.

They seek to promote a more engaged, active, and resourceful community by empowering community users and partner organisations with low-cost access to a wide range of useful goods, skills and related knowledge.
