OTC welcomes back Josh King, a local 3rd Grade Teacher in his 11th year Teaching. Throughout his teaching career he has taught both 5th and 6th grade. He has his masters in Educational Technology and an Administrators Credential. Josh went viral back in 2019 for his version of "Truth Hurts" by Lizzo that he sang to his students when they returned from summer vacation. He has since sung his rendition of "Levitating" by Dua Lipa and "Fancy Like" by Walker Hayes for his students.

Kyle and Josh discuss the current COVID regulations in school and the upcoming changes the students can expect. They also touch on how COVID has created a shift in behavior among the students and how Josh is implementing social emotional learning in his classroom. They also expressed their concern on the role social media is playing in young children's lives.

Lauren Skidmore was named the new CEO of Bethany Services, Inc., the nonprofit that operates the Bakersfield Homeless Center and the Alliance Against Family Violence & Sexual Assault. Lauren replaced Louis Gill, who resigned after 21 years. She has spent five years working as district director for Assemblyman Vince Fong (R-Kern County) and was also appointed to the Kern County Planning Commission and Kern County Employee Retirement Association. Prior to working with Fong, Lauren grew up as a fifth-generation cattle rancher and was the director of Kern Citizens for Sustainable Government.

Scott and Lauren discuss the services that the Bakersfield Homeless center has to offer and the barriers they need to overcome in order to make people feel comfortable seeking help. They touch on the different reasons why a person might find themselves without a home and how they cannot force them to stay and accept their services. They wrap up with an update on their new facility and when we can expect construction to start.

Chris Wilson founded the Tigerfight Foundation in 2015 after he saw a need in the community for families that needed additional financial support when undergoing pediatric blood cancer treatment. Since April of 2015 Tigerfight has provided $135K in financial assistance to 160 Kern County Families, as well as supported other local non-profits including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

John sits down with Chris Wilson and Board Member Kyle Jones to discuss the upcoming tournament that will be hosted at Stockdale Country Club on March 4th. John was born and raised in the communities of Bakersfield and Arvin, California. After graduating from Arvin High School he went to Bakersfield College and then CSUB to obtain his accounting degree. Upon obtaining his degree, he later went on to obtain his certified public accounting license and then later a master's degree in taxation from Golden Gate University. Local music sensation Jim ranger has been involved in music since he was 20 years old. He was on American Idol when he was 28 and the Voice when he was 38. Brian Miller is a local product of Bakersfield who grew up and attended school in the city from elementary school through postsecondary education. He has worked as an administrator at the Regional Occupational Center (ROC) and now also the Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) in a variety of capacities the past 11 years, including most recently as Principal. He has a passion for providing opportunities for students at ROC/CTEC that will help to prepare them for their future career and college success. He has worked to develop relationships in the community with both industry partners and postsecondary partners to strengthen the opportunities provided to students at ROC/CTEC.

Troy and Brian discuss how ROC prepares students who are about to enter the workforce by tailoring their programs to stay relevant to the industry they are training for. They also offer students internships in their 2nd semester to give them a more hands-on experience. They wrap up by going over the different classes ROC now offers and how they have adapted since COVID-19.

Dr. Jeremy Alan Woods is an Associate Professor for the California State University Bakersfield (CSUB) School of Business and Public Administration and leads the school's entrepreneurship program. He is a Stanford-educated former Fulbright Scholar with over 25 years of experience as an educator, entrepreneur, executive, and consultant. In addition to teaching and coaching over 4,000 students, publishing 15 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings papers, and authoring over 30 additional thought leadership works over the past decade as a professor, from 1995-2010.

Jeremy takes us through his different endeavors that ultimately lead him to his career today. He touches on what he believes to be the six behaviors that entrepreneurs should follow in order to be successful as well as the habits that can cause an inspiring entrepreneur to fail.
