Often we hear these 'buzz words' in relation to decolonising the institutions that collect and store First Nations objects. Some of these buzz words include, cultural safety, co-designing, staffing re-structures, etc. Not to say that these methods of decolonising institutions aren't relevant or useful. But to highlight that sometimes using a buzzword and slapping it on a project or initiative takes away from the true value and aims behind it. Sometimes a buzz words takes away from an opportunity to educate and elevate the voices and work of First Nations artists and those working in the public sector.

In this podcast episode I share space with Auntie Sana Bala, Auntie Lisa Hilli and finally, colleague and friend, Ruha Fifita as we discuss their work in the public sector; the different ways we can de-colonise institutions as Pacific Islander women; the allies within the institutions who pave way for POC to come through. These women give insight into how Australia is changing, how our experiences are unique and valuable in an institutional space. We discuss current projects, sharing stories about histories and stories that often aren't publicly acknowledged.

As First Nations people, we have been encompassed with cultural knowledge since before we were born, our ways of teaching and learning vary, whether it be through dance, song, craft or oral storytelling. It is true that learning has been central to our ways of living, being and belonging.

But, how do you navigate cultural learning in a space where sometimes you are the only culturally diverse child or family in a community? How do you stay connected to culture, when you're not on your own country? And, if you're an educator how do you ensure children and families feel acknowledged and a sense of belonging in your organisation?

These are the questions I explore with three Cultural Inclusion Educators, Jackie Bennett, Cecelia Wright and Ranu James. Join us as we explore the education sector, the experiences these women have had in their careers and the vital impact cultural inclusion support and resources have on not only our babies, but also our families, educators and wider community.

In this podcast episode I share space with Ginny Jones, Marley Morgan and Deline Briscoe to explore their artistry and businesses as fierce Aboriginal women.

Calling in from different corners of the globe we discussed a vast landscape of topics, sharing stories of our experiences. We delved into cultural through our arts practice when it comes to grief, healing country and re-learning and discovering knowledge once lost. We look deeply into this topic of legacy and the resources that these women are establishing to pass down to their children and these emerging elders.

We also explore this trend of, ‘breaking the system’, and how our thought process and fight changes over time. We also explore this new idea of not needing to break the system to succeed, but supporting our community to work within this established system and to make change from the inside and how success can come from more than just the colonial monetary value.
