The 1990's decade in WA Country Cricket was one of the strongest in recent memory. The Peel Cricket Association was a dominant force during that time and when it came to Peel Cricket, there was no bigger name or family, than the Wyllie family. In this episode, we capture that decade plus much more as we hear the journey of John Wyllie, who embodied the very essence of the Mandurah Cricket Club for over 3 decades along with Peel Cricket, in a way that is both captivating to listen to and a fantastic trip down memory lane. On our "now" award winning Podcast, Out on the Paddock Episode 9 wraps up the "trilogy" that began back in Episodes 6 & 7. This episode delves into the "other" side of the result from WA Country Crickets own version of the "miracle match at the WACA" ... a Country Cup Final played back in 2005. We hear the memories of Mid West legend Shayne Bidwell as he recounts how Geraldton lost the "unloosable" match on that day as well as the long journey home after it was all over. More importantly though, we hear the fabulous story of a highly decorated WA Country Cricketer, who started his career in Lake Grace and has committed his passions and energies right through his time in the Mid West and into the WA Country XI ... a journey that still continues today, albeit in a slightly different role. It's a classic Country Cricket story. The back end of Episode 9 also focus's on the latest news from WA Country Cricket. The name Glen Dehring is one that is synonymous with WA Country Cricket and in this episode, we get to hear from the man himself, his incredible Country Cricket story and journey of the past 4 decades. In a career that arguably stands alone amongst so many of his peers, Dehro's tentative early steps in establishing his Cricket career in Bunbury, through to dominating the local scene, Senior Country Week forays, selection in the WA Country XI and ultimately selection as Captain of the Australian Country XI are all captured in this episode. Significantly however, is that this episode also chronicles one of the most famous matches to be played in WA Country Cricket history ... a match simply now known as the "Sav Match", a Country Cup final played on the WACA back in 2005, that etched Bunbury player, Richard Savage's name into the history books and saw Glen Dehrings name also captured for history, in a way that many may not have heard before.
