For the last few years, scientists have been studying “fast radio bursts” in the night sky. These are radio pulses from space that are only milliseconds long. 

These bursts have probably been around for billions of years, but humans have only known about them for the past dozen years or so. 

 

But what exactly are these flashes of light? Stars colliding? Aliens? Neutron stars? That’s the topic for tonight’s First Friday Astronomy Talk at Boise State.

 

Ben Margalit is a NASA Einstein postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley. He joins Idaho Matters ahead of his free lecture tonight at 7:30 in the Science and Education Building room 112.
