The January 8 edition of Friday Night SmackDown felt like part two of the blue brand's celebration of the new year. With a couple important title matches and major moments to come in building toward WWE Royal Rumble, this had a chance to be a huge show.

Kevin Owens pushed himself too far in the war with Roman Reigns, and The Head of The Table alongside Jey Uso made sure he was badly injured. This left the door for the announcement of a huge gauntlet match.

Sami Zayn, Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio, Shinsuke Nakamura and King Corbin would face off to determine the No. 1 contender to the WWE universal champion, facing him at WWE Royal Rumble.

Big E promised to be a fighting champion, and that began with the announcement he would defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship against the man that helped him defeat Sami Zayn and King Corbin last week, Apollo Crews.

The Street Profits also continued their rivalry with Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode by putting their titles on the line once again. The heels had used every trick in the book already and fallen short, but this was the time to pull out their best secret tricks.

SmackDown has started out strong, but the show is only building toward a brighter future. The roster needs to continue relying on young impressive rising stars to thrive in 2021.

NXT was not afraid to start off the new year with a bang. NXT New Year's Evil had all the makings of an NXT TakeOver, including multiple intense grudge matches and several important title matches along the way.

Presented without commercial interruption, Finn Balor would fight Kyle O'Reilly one more time for the NXT Championship. The last time these two fought, The Prince was put on the shelf for months with a broken jaw but still won. This time, O'Reilly might need to do even more to capture the gold.

Two men who could be considered the No. 1 contenders to the NXT Championship after New Year's Evil, Damian Priest had put himself in the cross hairs of Karrion Kross. Doomsday has returned to WWE, but The Archer of Infamy planned to stop him before he could do any more damage.

Rhea Ripley and Raquel Gonzalez were once friends. Now, they have become bitter rivals. In a Last Woman Standing match, these two fought to prove who was truly the biggest giant of the women's division.

Santos Escobar has ruined the chances of so many young stars as NXT cruiserweight champion, but Gran Metalik was not afraid of him or Legado del Fantasma. The Monday Night Raw star was happy for this opportunity to finally add gold to his legacy in WWE.

Finally, Xia Li and Boa were set to return to the ring, molded by an absolutely barbaric training regimen from a mysterious teacher and the even-more mysterious woman behind him. No one knew what to expect of this returning group of changed performers.

Hosted by Dexter Lumis, New Year's Evil promised to be a special night. Top talent stepped into the ring for the first time or the last time, heralding a new year with some early potential match of the year contenders.

With appearances from Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair, among others, the show promised a few strolls down memory lane.

It is that time of year again. For the final show of 2020, WWE NXT presented the NXT Year-End Awards. This was the time to celebrate the black-and-gold brand's greatest competitors over the past year.

Nine awards were to be given out, including Overall Competitor of the Year, Match of the Year and Breakout Star of the Year. Some NXT greats had impressive years, and it was time to recognize stars like Adam Cole, Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Io Shirai, Rhea Ripley and more.

Pete Dunne still had a score to settle with Roderick Strong. The longtime rivals were set for another huge technical showdown in the continued clash of Undisputed Era against The Kings of NXT.

Johnny Gargano looked to exorcise his biggest demon when he faced Leon Ruff. The Rebel Heart has lost repeatedly as a champion, but he had a chance to prove he is a legendary NXT North American champion with a win.

Two likely future top stars on the black-and-gold brand, Bronson Reed and Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, were set to open the show. Mercedes Martinez was also announced to return to the ring.

From the Year-End Awards to the variety of big matches promised, this looked to be a fantastic show to close out the year.

2021 is on the immediate horizon, and that means The Road to WrestleMania is approaching. The December 28 edition of Monday Night Raw was the red brand's final addition to the 2020 year in wrestling.

The biggest story Raw has to offer is the strange and brutal warfare between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt. After burning The Fiend alive, The Viper thought he was done with Wyatt. Instead, Alexa Bliss promised he would return. This week, she had plans to torment Orton further in Alexa's Playground.

Charlotte Flair was out of action for six months following the heinous attack of Nia Jax. This week, The Queen got her revenge. She and The Indomitable Force would battle one-on-one for the first time in years.

In another huge match, Keith Lee fought Sheamus for a chance at the WWE champion, Drew McIntyre. Only one man would be granted the honor of fighting The Scottish Psychopath next week on Raw.

After months of torment, Ricochet was done fighting lackeys. The One and Only demanded a match with Mustafa Ali, and the leader of Retribution was happy to accept.

With TakeOver: WarGames now firmly in the rearview mirror, the men and women of NXT are looking to make the last couple of shows in 2020 as memorable as possible.

This week's show had a packed lineup with segments in and out of the ring, including a very special Gargano Christmas with Indi Hartwell and Austin Theory.

We also saw the odd couple of Killian Dain and Drake Maverick take on Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch in a Street Fight for the NXT tag titles.

Isaiah "Swerve" Scott looked to get some payback against Jake Atlas, Bronson Reed was in action and we got to see Kyle O'Reilly and Finn Balor relive their showdown for the NXT Championship.

Sunday's Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view gave fans a lot to talk about, including the apparent murder of Bray Wyatt by Randy Orton.

During their Firefly Inferno match, The Viper set The Fiend's entire body ablaze in the middle of the ring. It brought back memories of The Undertaker being burned in his casket, but this time, we saw the body go up in flames.

We also saw Charlotte Flair return to help Asuka win the Women's Tag Team Championships, and The Hurt Business defeated The New Day to become the new Raw tag team champions.

The final WWE pay-per-view of 2020 took place Sunday night as the roster took to the new Thunderdome inside Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida for TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs.

The show featured two TLC matches, a Firefly Inferno match and four standard bouts, so the individual matches involving each weapon were left out this year.

Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre defended their championships in the two main event contests against Kevin Owens and AJ Styles, respectively.

We also saw The Fiend battle Randy Orton, while Carmella challenged Sasha Banks for the SmackDown Women's Championship. Asuka and a mystery partner faced Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the women's tag titles, The New Day lined up against The Hurt Business, and a big eight-man tag match kicked off the show.
