  • Her Message For You
    by Dot Cannon

For Christmas week, we're rebroadcasting an early "Over Coffee" podcast that received a lot of positive response.
Award-winning comedian, motivational speaker and author Judy Carter says each of us is living our own message.  Her book, The Message of You, explores the ways in which telling that story can be inspiring and life-changing--even if you never get up and deliver it as a speech.
(However, her book also gives some great guidance and resources for becoming an effective public speaker--up to and including ways to make your presentation hilariously funny, AND ways to market, and make a living, with it!)

Jill Shargaa is going to make you laugh.  She's also going to make you question something most of us say on a routine basis.
Jill is both a professional comedian, and a graphic designer whose portfolio has included extensive work for Universal Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering.
Her comedy career started in 1979, when she sold one-liners to Joan Rivers--and continued with an appearance on ABC-TV's "America's Funniest People",  performances with Rosie O'Donnell and Lily Tomlin, and appearances at comedy clubs throughout the southeast.
Jill, who created the long-running all-female comedy show, "An Evening of Estrogen", in 1996, also gave a hilarious TED talk, recently, entitled, "The Awe of Awesome".  Earlier this week, she learned that TED had included it in their eight-minute highlight reel, "The Year in Ideas"!
Jill talked about her background, her comedy show and how she came to create her TED talk.  She was--talented, funny and compelling.

  • An Inner Exploration
    by Dot Cannon
Most visual artists use their particular medium to express the world they experience.
Contemporary light and shadow artist Claudia Bueno goes several steps beyond that.
Her creative process usually starts with an intangible--and a challenge to herself, to translate it into something her viewers can experience.  Her results are thought-provoking, immersive, and often beautiful.
One such work was Claudia's recent installation, "Fiberspace",  which came to Los Angeles in May 2014.  Using video, light, sculpture and audio, Claudia had created a representation of the human central nervous system.
At her installation in Los Angeles' Maker City, Claudia talked about her background, the origins of her "Fiberspace" project and her experiences creating it, as well as the ways in which the project had challenged her to grow, as an artist.

People were smiling, applauding and sharing ideas.

Innovate Pasadena's inaugural "ENVISION Summit" was winding down.
