Welcome to Over the Rainbow, an LGBTQ+ podcast dedicated to queer education and queer representation. Hosted by Rachel Keighley (she/her).
Episode 8: LGBTQ+ labels with Jules (they/them):
In this episode Jules and I talk about LGBTQ+ labels. We cover what a label is, and discuss why labels are useful, but also why sometimes they can be dangerous or a hindrance to people discovering or expressing their identity. We also share some of our own experiences using labels and exploring language.
As always, what we discuss is not a hard fast rule. Some people love using a particular label to express themselves, whilst others feel labels are too restrictive, and others still fall somewhere in between. All of these views are totally valid, and I urge you to do what’s right for you.
