We continue our holiday presentations with this first program of 2024. In this edition we cover more details from an interview we did during 2023.

Motoring journalist David Berthon restored what came to be considered as the best 1913 Rolls Royce in the world.

He sold it after 15 years of refurbishment and enjoyment in driving and has now bought a 1928 Rolls.

The background to the vehicle and David’s feeling on selling his previous model is a wonderful reflection of the life and times of a historical motor car.

G’Day and welcome to Overdrive, a program that dabbles in the material and magical world of cars and transport.

I’m David Brown

Overdrive is on sabbatical leave over the Christmas new year. So we thought we would replay some interviews from the past. With the 2024 Decker rally starting on the 5th of January we’ve dug up some chats with the Australian rally ace Molly Taylor who competed in the Dakar in 2022 among other things.

The first interview is about her early career, traveling to the UK on her own and the second is when we caught up with her at the launch of the Subaru BRZ sports car at Sydney Motorsport park but also talked about her Dakar experience.

• We have talked about certain traffic problems in the last few weeks, including signposting. And of course, we know what the problem was – or do we? This week we talk to an expert in behaviour change who sets a pattern that could be applied in any aspect of transport planning – the need to test with real people not just theoretical pontifications.

• Do you think your insurance is a fair reflection of your risk? Are you really a better driver than the others and so should be rewarded? We chat to Simon Donovan from Fuse Fleet insurance on the use of telematics to measure what is really going on with specific car fleets, what the insurance rate should be and how this all ties into better community policies to tackle climate change and road safety.

Origin energy now has a department of eMobility. The role is to help people effectively use electric vehicles. They now run a subscription service for some electric vehicles where you can use a vehicle for 30 days to try it out. Then keep it as long as you like or , give it back, swap to another vehicle or swap during the year when you need a different vehicle such as when you go on holidays.

We chat to Origin’s General Manager of eMobility Chau Le.
