When I think of record prices at auctions for classic cars, I think of the exotic, the very rare, and perhaps those with provenance for the vehicle. Now typically this has been things, to me, like Ferraris and here in Australia our 1970s muscle cars. But as time passes, what is bubbling to the surface in terms of collectible cars? Well, Collecting Cars Australia, the online auction house, has an item that might get a huge figure that is based on a more perhaps familiar model. Rich Fowler, is the General Manager of Collecting Cars in Australia, and he joins us on the line now.

We put a post up on social media about a great Australian car: the 1964 EH Holden and we received some great comments from the public

It also raised the issue of unusual optional extras. The EH had options such as

• Plastic seat covers

• 4 piece luggage set that is made to fit neatly into the boot

• Rear parcel shelf

• Seat belts

• Hand rail on the back of the front seat

• An extra inside door pull-to handles

One of the initial problems with our attitude to electric vehicles that still exists to a considerable extent today is the attitude that if it doesn't suit me, then it's no use to anyone. But good management is understanding the actual needs and opportunities in developing technologies. And in this case, electric vehicles, whether they be powered by batteries or hydrogen fuel cells. Two companies have just made a joint cooperation agreement announcement of that to encourage hydrogen fuel cells in vehicles in a particular location.

Geoff Drucker is the managing director of Countrywide Hydrogen, and he joins us from Tasmania.

Three Feature Interviews

This week we have three interviews recorded in non-studio conditions.

Two of the interviews are from people we met at the Car and Coffee show at the St.Ives Showground

The first is a gentleman with a 1950s Australia car and it is certainly not a Holden. It has a copy of prestige open top sports car and not many were made. The underpinnings were what every you could get. (1:26)

The Second is a prestige Mercedes but the owner has a very diverse range of motoring experiences (7:25)

And finally we chat to a pre-eminent breakfast radio announcer about his first car and how he would of added a motoring theme to the coronation. (13:06)

Most car companies now have a new measure of how good their vehicle is. It's not just the power of the engine or the speed it can reach or the acceleration. It's the number and size of screens in the vehicle, with an emphasis on the quantity of information that can be shown.

There's the dials and information screen in front of the driver, the centre console with the infotainment system and, if you are lucky, the heads up display.

But is it a matter of how much information, or perhaps how effective the necessary information in communicated.
