  • The Emotional Cycle of Change: How to Best Move Through "The Valley of Despair" and Towards Success

“Change is uncomfortable. It’s helpful to understand the process we go through emotionally when we are faced with change so we won’t be derailed by it.”
                                                                -
Excerpt from The 12 Week Year -

Today we’re diving into the five emotions we all experience when implementing change. They’re what makes up the EMOC (emotional cycle of change), and they go like this:

    ⭐ Uninformed Optimism

    ⭐ Informed Pessimism

    ⭐ The Valley of Despair

    ⭐ Informed Optimism

    ⭐ Success

The third experience, known as the Valley of Despair, is our main focus during this mini podcast episode. Because I would argue that if you’re aware that this feeling will occur when making shifts in your own life, then you’ll be more likely to stick with it and see the new habit, skill, or change through to the end.

So if you’re ready to have a plan in place for when things get challenging (and they will!) then pop in those ear buds and let's get motivated to stay the course together.

  • Fill Up to Spill Out - How to Make Yourself a Priority with Author Allison Smith

Today, I’m excited to welcome author Allison Smith onto the podcast. Allison and I connected over on Instagram over a shared love of personal growth, running, reading…really all the things!

A little while back, I was lucky enough to win one of Allison’s books, Fill Up to Spill Out, in a raffle which was thrilling for me because you know how much I love to read. And after reading Allison’s work, I knew she would be a perfect guest over here on the pod.

Today Allison shares with us the importance of making yourself a priority, the value of being intentional about how you use your time, and how she wants to wake up each day to find peace, joy, and purpose in her life.

So friend, if you are ready to stop pouring from an empty cup, and you’re ready to fill up to spill out, then pop in your earbuds and let's learn together.

  • Mini Meditation: Inspired by Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic

If you have been listening to The Live By Design Podcast for any time you know that I LOVE to read, I actually did an entire episode about the value of reading with my 91 year old grandma. I love reading because it provides the opportunity for learning and growth, all from the comfort of your couch!

And not too long ago I re-read the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. And gosh, I just love this book. The whole thing is underlined and annotated, and I’ve highlighted almost everything because there is so much goodness in this book.

There’s one excerpt that really spoke to me, because it’s kind of the ethos for the Live By Design Collective and podcast too. My hope is for you to know that the world needs you and your gifts and your unique abilities.

So, if you are ready to trust your goodness, know your enoughness, and make room for joy and ease, then let’s slow down and meditate together.

  • A New Approach to Goal Setting through D.E.E.P. Goals with Spiritual Business Coach Amelia Travis

Have you heard of S.M.A.R.T. goals? Traditionally, this is the approach to goal-setting we’ve been taught. S.M.A.R.T. goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bound.

But what if there were another way to approach goal setting? One that didn’t delay feelings of success for the very end, but one that celebrated who you were becoming in the pursuit of your goals, each and every day?

Well that is exactly what my personal business coach Amelia Travis teaches us today when she shares her approach to D.E.E.P. goal setting, which involves goals that are:

    Desire-based

    Emotionally-informed

    Energy-aligned

    Pleasureable

So if you’re ready to shift from outcome-based goals to ones that are identity-based, then pop in your earbuds and press play.

  • Mini LBD Collective Training - Mindset: What it is, Why it Matters, & How to Shift Towards Growth

“Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself. It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation.” verywellmind.com

If you have spent any amount of time online then you have probably heard about mindset. Sometimes mindset can feel a little intangible which is why I took a deep dive this month in the LBD Collective into learning what exactly mindset means and why it does actually matter.

I like to equate the idea of mindset to going to the doctor’s office for an eye exam. Your doctor puts different lenses in front of your eyes, and you have to say which prescription is best. Each set of lenses may be marginally different, but you have to figure out which one is the best fit.

And I feel as if mindset is similar to those lenses. Your mindset is the lens through which you view the world, and you have the ability to shift them until you find the one that best benefits you.

In today’s conversation, we’ll talk about the six most studied mindsets paying particular attention to the growth vs fixed mindset, and how these mindsets exist on a continuum. Then we finish with how to move towards a growth mindset, why it matters, and the five different ways to shift your mindset going forward.

  • Choosing Impact Over Fear and Stepping Forward Courageously with Mikita Smith of the Thyme 4 Tea with Mikita Podcast

“I have this mantra I always say to myself - what’s the worst that can happen? Especially if you show up from a place of purpose and intention, and you’re trying to share something of value. You can’t go wrong if you’re doing it with good intention.”

I’m so excited to welcome Mikita Smith onto the podcast. Mikita and I first connected to record a conversation for her show, Thyme 4 Tea with Mikita, and she and I had such a lovely time together that I knew I wanted to bring her voice and message to the LBD Podcast too!

Today, Mikita shares with us how she wants to fully show up for her life and not let fear hold her back, and we dive into some recent pivots she’s made in her life and career.

“You can pivot at any point in your life to change how you want to show up as long as it makes you happy and fulfills you.”

So join me as Mikita shares how to get unstuck, release fear’s grip on you, and to step confidently forward into the life you’re creating for yourself.

  • Tune Out the Noise and Tune in with Yourself through Mantras & Meditation with Jeri-Ashley - Parent Coach & Educator

    “You’re okay. Everything’s okay. You’re here. You’re fine.”

Today, I’m joined by Jeri-Ashley of @jerithemindfulmama. Jeri-Ashely is a friend whom I met when I was searching through Peloton hashtags to connect with fellow Peloton-riding mamas! Jeri-Ashely and I immediately connected, and we’re friends still till this day!  I appreciate how she keeps it real on IG while sharing what the day-to-day of motherhood really looks like.

Recently, there was a post that Jeri-Ashely shared that I just knew would be a perfect conversation to share on the podcast. In her post she talked about what she does to drown out the noise of the world. “As someone who overthinks, over analyzes, and can get overwhelmed very quickly, drowning out the noise is something I’ve been actively working on for years.”

Jeri-Ashley goes on to share that meditation, breath work, affirmations, and unplugging have helped her get in touch with herself.

And you won’t want to miss when Jeri-Ashley shares a very personal, impactful story with us and how the use of a mantra helped during an incredibly pivotal time in her life.

If you are ready to use affirmations to affirm yourself press play and listen in on my conversation with Jeri-Ashely.

  • The Power of Showing Up for Yourself - What I Learned from Hosting 100 Episodes of The Live By Design Podcast

“There is something incredibly powerful that happens when you keep showing up for yourself. And you don’t have to do it perfectly (heck no!). Show up, embrace the mess, and honor the process, because there is so much joy that’s found in showing up for yourself.”

Friends!! I am so excited for this 100th episode and to celebrate it here with you!

Today I’m sharing how I embraced imperfect action when I started the podcast two years ago, how I continue to choose being brave over perfect still today, and how the podcast has kept me committed to my own personal growth journey.

Through this journey, I’ve learned to show up, do what feels hard and outside my current comfort zone, and eventually to feel an increased sense of self-worth and self-love that’s cultivated through this process.

Milestones like this take time and discipline to achieve, and it’s done one step at a time. And over time, this consistency starts to compound.

Today I want to encourage you to show up for yourself, do the thing that’s been on your heart, or set a goal that makes you just a little bit nervous. And remember, friend, keep showing up and keep learning because there is no failure. It’s all a fail-forward and another step in the learning process.

So, if you are ready to embrace the very best version of yourself, press play and let’s grow together.
