At Wednesday's coronavirus response briefing, Governor Asa Hutchinson reported 415 new coronavirus cases in the state with Washington and Benton Counties recording the most new cases with 90 and 81 respectively. There were also six more deaths bringing that toal to 197. The governor also announced visitations at long-term care facilities can resume July 1. Visitations will only be allowed at facilities that have completed COVID-19 testing of all residents and staff. Outdoor visits are encouraged

On Wednesday morning, Washington County Sheriff Tim Helder announced there were at least 15 cases of COVID-19 at the county's detention facility. The cases were identified in a group of 40 quarantined detainees using rapid coronavirus test kits and than confirmed through lab testing that was recommended by the Arkansas Department of Health. Although the coronavirus pandemic first arrived in Arkansas back in March, Northwest Arkansas is only now seeing a surge of COVID-19 cases across the region, which means local hospitals are admitting more patients who require hospitalization and the use of a ventilator. Tuesday evening, the Fayetteville City Council unanimously passed an ordinance that requires residents and visitors in the city to wear face masks in most public places including businesses. The measure also includes $100,000 in funding to provide support to businesses that are adapting to the new rules during the pandemic. The council also passed an emergency clause, which means the ordinance goes into effect immediately.

A team from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is in Northwest Arkansas investigating a spike in COVID-19 cases in the Hispanic community. According to the Arkansas Department of Health, about 21 percent of the state's active cases are Hispanic patients.
