The under-construction U.S. Marshalls Museum in Fort Smith will have many artifacts that relate to African-American history. Leslie Higgins, the director of education at the museum, says the stories of the United States Marshals and Black History Month are intertwined.

Jenna Melnicki of Jenna and the Soul Shakers is organizing " Dancing for Dianne: A Festival of Hope ." The fundraiser is scheduled for 12-10 p.m. Feb. 23 at Arts Center of the Ozarks and will feature performances by 20 bands. Tickets, which include food and beer, are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Proceeds will support Jenna's mother, who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer.

The University of Arkansas Herbarium , established in 1875, houses the largest collection of preserved vascular plant specimens in the state. It's among eight Herbaria in Arkansas, and over a hundred across the southeastern U.S., that serve as a centers for scientific research and botanical education. Manager Jennifer Ogle provides a tour of the newly relocated facility. An open house is scheduled March 7th.

On March 3, Washington County voters will decide on a 0.25 % sales tax increase to pay for an improved emergency communications system. John Luther, emergency management director for Washington County, developed the proposed plan to replace the 15-year-old system.

The U.S. Census Bureau is ramping up its recruiting efforts. Last Friday, officials hosted an open house at its Area Census Office in Fayetteville. The office covers 38 counties and officials say they are at about 90 percent in terms of recruitment.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia unanimously found an experimental Arkansas Medicaid waiver program to be unlawful.
