Preparations are underway for the Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship tournament, a stop on the LPGA Tour, which begins June 24 at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers. The Arkansas River in the River Valley crested at just below 41 feet Wednesday, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The water rose less than expected, but still beat the previous record of 38 feet. It also damaged nearly a thousand structures of which more than 600 were homes. As the river begins receding, residents and city leaders are undertaking recovery efforts. Volunteers can sign up to help here and monetary donations can be made to the United Way by texting FLOOD2019 to 91999.

Two University of Arkansas professors have found that placing imperceptible barcodes on products may prevent injuries among cashiers and lead to more retail efficiency. Imperceptible barcodes are not visible to the human eye, but are placed all over the packaging so a product is scannable from any side. The research is published in the International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics .

W. Harold Flowers was born in Stamps, Arkansas in 1911. While on a trip with his father to Little Rock in 1927, he witnessed the lynching of John Carter, an incident that propelled Flowers into a life of fighting for civil rights, racial justice and educational equality. He was counsel to Silas Hunt, who was known for integrating the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1948, and served as president of both the Arkansas branch of the NAACP and later the African-American National Bar

Governor Asa Hutchinson is approving $100,000 in emergency funds to assist with flood support efforts in the state.
