Today on the 5: One of the great benefits of the Steam sales are being able to try out games for extremely low prices. I picked up the 2008 game Mirror's Edge for $5, and have been playing through it the last few days. It had mixed reviews when it came out, but I'm getting a massive kick out of it.

Today on the 5: I review a piece of absolutely essential viewing, the 1985 film The Stuff. I figured I knew what the movie was going to be once I added it to my Instant Queue. I was dead wrong.

Today on the 5: There have been numerous stories and messages all across the web within the last few weeks calling for a boycott of Apple, mainly over some perceived wrongdoing against Google in the mobile patent space. I think these people are missing a really important point, and that's that what Apple is doing is legal! If you want to vent your spleen on something, try aiming at the patent process.

Today on the 5: As a kind of spiritual sequel to last week's 5 about grammar, this episode I'm talking about my changing typing habits. I've noticed as I've gotten a tablet and used it more often, I find it to be my go to device when doing any type of longer typing.

Today on the 5: There's been some back and forth lately over the impact on grammar that modern technology has had. While the idea itself is being examined all over, I think the better question is whether it's just a natural side effect of the way we communicate. Is grammar just changing to suit the nature of the modern world?

Today on the 5: I did a rough review of American Gods a few weeks ago, when I was around a third of the way through. I felt the book was good, but not great. I have now finished the book, and I felt that the book warranted a more thorough review.

Today on the 5: There is a new revision of a popular fanedit of the David Lynch film Dune. This new edit, Dune The Alternative Edition Redux, was recently released. Having watched it, it now stands as the definitive version of one of my favorite films.

Today on the 5: There's a been a lot of buzz around the web about a potential Amazon phone. Most people think it's a terrible idea, but I'm not convinced. Would it really be so bad for Amazon to make a phone? Aren't phones really just ecosystem gateways now anyway?
