Today on the 5: I recently watched the classic 1970 war film Tora! Tora! Tora!. I expected the movie to be great, but even so there were some fantastic surprises for me. My review of the rightly revered piece of World War II cinema.

Today on the 5: I just finished reading the first collected trade of the new Animal Man series. I found it to be a great direction for the character, embracing some of the horror roots that Alan Moore explored in his Swamp Thing run.

Today on the 5: I finally sat down and watched the much derided John Carpenter film Prince Of Darkness. I expected to be underwhelmed from the popular reviews and scores, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a great little horror film.

Today on the 5: I've never been much of a sports fan, but I've found myself getting pretty interested in soccer in the last few years. I think what drives me towards soccer so much is it seems to be free of some of things I find so boring about typical American sports.

Today on the 5: I'm a little over a third of the way through Neil Gaiman's novel American Gods. So far, it's a good read, if not up to the levels of praise I usually read heaped on the book.

Today on the 5: There's nothing I see as a bigger indictment of the state of our democracy than the constant use of labels as a way to classify people. You see it everywhere, even from people who are otherwise fairly intelligent individuals. Rather than engage in real discussion or objective analysis, we end name calling and grouping people together under convenient umbrellas to prop up our viewpoints.

Today on the 5: I've been playing through the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption recently. As I've been playing I was reminded of an article I read around the time the game was released about killing the animals in the game. I was curious what my reaction to that aspect would be, and whether it's common to have your real world views on animals span over to a game.
