Meanwhile more evidence is mounting that the AFC and NFC South divisions are easily the two worst in football, going 0-5 from their matches today. Two more will play each other on MNF.

The big stories of week 11 revolved around the teams with good records who blew it today, specifically the Minnesota Vikings, and both the Jets and Giants from New York.

Teams who ground out wins included Cincinnati, Baltimore, Philadelphia and the Kansas City Chiefs whilst Atlanta and New Orleans kept their seasons life whilst their division leaders (Tampa Bay) are on break.

The amazing match between NFC powerhouse Minnesota and AFC titans Buffalo was unquestionably the talking point today, which some spectacular catching and breathless plays as the Vikings overhauled the Bills in overtime to leave a big marker about their Super Bowl aspirations.

The NFL’s first ever match in Germany took place with Tampa Bay restoring some life to their campaign with a win-over a strong Seattle side, whilst three teams experiencing challenging seasons, Green Bay, Detroit and Indianapolis all won thrillers.

Week 9 saw a lot of teams on bye but still plenty of pivotal action. The Rams and Cardinals continued to fade out of contention for the NFC West title, in the process enabling the Seahawks and Buccaneers to grip first place of their respective divisions ahead of showdown in Munich in week 10.

Elsewhere the Buffalo Bills suffered their second defeat of the season to the New York Jets, who bounced back a bad result in week 8 to quickly return to form; the same can be said for the Cincinnati Bengals who had a shocker on MNF but belted the Carolina Panthers this week. Other playoff contenders on the winners’ list this week include Miami, Minnesota and the LA Chargers.

This week was moving week, with the teams with the best records in the league (Philadelphia, Buffalo, Minnesota) along with the World Champion LA Rams all on bye and giving some of the challengers a chance to assert themselves.

Among the main beneficiaries were the Kansas City Chiefs, who got back on track with a win at San Francisco, the NY Giants who got going in the nick of time at Jacksonville and the NY Jets who did just enough in Denver against the Broncos who were without star QB recruit Russell Wilson.

Baltimore and Cincinnati surged ahead in their battle for the AFC North, normal service resumed with Tua Tagovailoa under centre in Miami on SNF and even Washington started to build a winning streak with a surprise win over Green Bay.

Sunday’s play culminated with titanic match-ups atop both the AFL (Bills @ Chiefs) and NFC (Cowboys @ Eagles); prior to that there were upsets everywhere, with emerging and re-building teams the Giants (vs Baltimore), Jets (@ Green Bay), Pittsburgh (vs Tampa Bay) and Atlanta (vs San Francisco) all securing wins against Superbowl challengers.

Other highlights from today included the Vikings tightening their grip on the NFC North, and the Colts and Patriots both extending winning streaks after sluggish starts.
