While these pages can bring humor and camaraderie, they sometimes cross the line—targeting individuals in ways that can be harmful, demoralizing, or even contradictory to the values of support and community they aim to promote. These pages frequently invite comments that attack, sexualize, and critique the appearances of those involved in the military community. However, when tragedy strikes, such as issues related to mental health or personal loss, these pages tend to switch gears, promoting messages of kindness and self-care, despite having perpetuated negativity in the first place and cause a harmful culture.

We discuss the broader effects of this dynamic, especially when serious issues like mental health and personal loss come to the forefront. How can we foster a culture where humor and accountability coexist? How can we encourage a more positive and respectful online space within the military community? We are calling for a cultural shift of accountability to replace a long dominated toxic culture.
