World leaders will gather in New York next week for the annual United Nations (UN) General Assembly, with Australia joining other nations in formally recognising Palestinian statehood.

Palestinian leaders have been barred from attending the UN gathering, after the United States denied them visas.

Earlier this week, a UN Commission of Inquiry report found that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Israel continues to categorically reject the report.
