  • Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival
    Talked with Ellen Wedner, Donald M. Ephraim Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival and Elizabeth Dashiell, PR about the upcoming film festival. It runs from Jan 19-Feb 23. It's their 27th Annual and they are doing it a little different this year. They are running all the movies in Boca and then reshowing in PBG and then again in Delray. (that way the listeners won't have to drive as far). We talked about several of the movies, including Bagels over Berlin and Supergirl. Some of the screenings will include the Directors and cast members (they'll be available for a Q&A after the screening). They have all the films listed online at www.pbjff.org.   • Norton Museum of Art
    Spoke with Scott Bernarde, Dir of Communications and Glenn Tomlinson, Dir Education Department for the Norton Museum of Art. They are open during their remodeling/expansion and are offering Free admission for the next two years. This year they have added a lot of programs to run during the winter school break. Tuesday 12/27 Phillida Barlow will present The Gift of Sculpture, Wednesday 12/28 William Merritt Chase The Gift of Light, Thursday 12/29 Teresita Fernanadez The Gift of Memory and Friday 12/30Jose Bedia The Gift of Identity. They are also showing A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Plus they have lots of drop in style programs.   • Henry Flagler Museum
    Talked with David Carson, Public Affairs Director and Allison Goff, Member Visitor Services Director from the Flagler Museum. They have a wonderful line up of events/exhibitions this year for the public to enjoy. The museum "Whitehall" is the home Henry Flagler built as a wedding present for his wife. It's located in Palm Beach and all the hours/ticket pricing/events are listed online at www.flaglermuseum.us They are normally open during the day but have added some Holiday Evening tours starting on 12/18. They book quickly due to limited size so listeners should call 561-655-2833 to reserve their spot as soon as possible. They've also been doing some renovating of their outdoor space and will now be able to do tea in the coconut grove space.   • Junior Achievement
    Talked with Mark Wade, Partner Restoration Alliance, Golf Chair for Junior Achievement PBC. They go into schools and teach kids about business/finances/entrepreneurship. They are looking for volunteers from local businesses to join them in their outreach. They have lots of different fundraisers including one on the Fazio Course at Jonathan's Landing Old Trail Golf Club, this golf tournament is a prestigious event to build client relationships for participants while raising funds for Junior Achievement programs.     Talked with Tracy Sussman, Dir of Marketing, Robin Nierman, Diabetes Prevention Program Coor., and Bryan Hunt, Sr Program Dir at the YMCA PBC. They have a lot of great programs available to the community. November is Diabetes Awareness Month and they are offering a Prevention program at the Y. It's a 26 week class to help increase awareness, reduce weight, increase physical fitness to 150min/wk. They also, have Zumba, Swim Lessons, Cycling, etc. Afterschool and school break camps are also available. They also love volunteers.   • Jupiter Lighthouse
    Talked with Kathleen Glover, Asst Dir. and Jamie Stuve, President/CEO, Jupiter Lighthouse. They are the Loxahatchee River Historical Society and as such they maintain the Lighthouse, the museum and history of our area. They have a wide variety programs including Yoga, tours, hikes, etc. They raise all the money to maintain the Lighthouse with a lot of different events. Coming up this Saturday, 11/19 they are holding the Lighthouse River Rendezvous with live Jazz, Drinks/aps from a lot of Jupiter's wonderful restaurants.     Talked with Jacqueline Nicholson, Dir. of Development and Bill Harsh, Board Member, Pres of the Centurions from Palm Beach Habilitation center. They provide services to adults 18 with developmental, emotional and physical disabilities so that they can be more independent. They offer a variety of programs including: job training, employment opportunities, residential services. The main campus is located across from Atlantis.     Talked with Alyssa Rich, Dir of Development, Crohn's & Colitis Foundation. They are doing a family/pet friendly fundraiser walk at City Place on November 5th starting at 9am. Meyer Amp in WPB, Mizner in Boca, TC and Broward locations too. It's free to walk but they encourage fund raising to help with services/research.
