In this episode we cover the recent non-renewal of Professor Anthony Dandridge’s contract for the fall semester and the consolidation of the Black Studies Department, Latin Caribbean & Latinx Studies, Asian Studies, and Women Gender and Sexuality Studies into one multicultural department. With this news, we wanted to look at the impact this has had on students and the campus at large. This isn’t just a New Paltz issue, however, as numerous institutions around the country have begun to make changes to their cultural departments due to the recent crackdown on DEI in higher education by the Trump Administration. Through the lens of Hip Hop in activism we tell the story of what happens when an institution makes changes to its curriculum based on politics and national trends.

In this installation of Forgotten Fairytales, we explore neglected 19th century writer Mary de Morgan and one of her stories. The Toy Princess follows a princess who grew up away from her kingdom, returning to discover that her father has replaced her with an enchanted, wooden look-alike. What's more, the people of the kingdom much prefer this living doll–– that is complacent and quiet––to the real princess, who has real emotions and opinions. Reel Talk is a podcast heavily focused on the film Industry. In each episode, a guest speaker comes on to discuss their work, how they got their start in the industry, offer any words of advice and/or support for our listeners as well as the hosts, and to answer any other questions said hosts may have for them.

This week, the featured guest was Gregory Lerzundi Van Voorhis, a local horror film director from Westchester New York who recently released an independent horror film titled "The Pitchfork Retreat". The film, which released in 2025, centers around Matt, Mandy, and Nikolai, all of whom journey to a secluded island retreat for a life-changing competition. However, the prize comes with a high cost, as the trio soon realizes that there is nowhere to hide when the darkness from within comes to light. In this episode, Gregory discusses with our interviewer Robbie about how he got his start working in the film industry, what drew him to working in the field, his love for the horror genre, and some advice that he had to share with our audience. Following the interview, our two hosts discussed the interview and the trailer for The Pitchfork Retreat. The hosts also made a top 5 horror movie list before the podcast concluded.
