Often the story of natural disasters and their aftermath lump everyone's experience into one narrative but what about communities of color who survived the 1906 earthquake, what about their children, their education?

In this episode, I share my love for the Newton J. Tharp School in San Francisco. Built in 1910 it survived a turbulent history only to be left frozen in time by an attempt to save it.

Two live recordings by Lena Horne one on New Years Eve 1956 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York and the other recorded in the Rat Pack's playroom, The Copa at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas over three nights in 1960 released in 1961 on the RCA Victor label.
