A major track fault at Melbourne's Flinders St station caused havoc across the metropolitan train network, seeing thousands of commuters left stranded during peak hour.

The system outage has prompted questions about the reliabillity of Melbourne's train network, and has many travellers nervous about possible future disruptions in the lead up to summer.

Treaty discussions between Indigenous leaders and the Victorian government are set to begin next year, however some voices are claiming they are being left out of the discussion.

11 Victorian Indigenous language groups will have a seat at the table during the treaty discussions, however there are 38 or more Indigenous languages present in the state. 

Greens M.P Lidia Thorpe, lead a protest in October, urging the treaty commission to expand discussions to the full 38 nations.

A tsunami has battered the Indonesian island Sulawesi, and has claimed appromixately 400 lives. 

The disaster was caused after a magnitude 7.5 earthquake occured near the island.

An iconic work by the enigmatic British street artist Banksy was shredded at auction in an act of apparent self sabotage by the artist. 

After selling for more that £1m pounds at the exclusive aution house Southeby's, a shreddring mechanism within the picture frame activated, causing the work to be half-destroyed before security were able to step in.

The ongoing strawberry scandal is having significant effects on Australian growers. 

The industry has been reeling after needles were found in a number of punnets of strawberries. While new measures are being taken to safeguard supplies, and tougher new penalties for anyone tampering with fruit announced, consumers are still cautious.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has proposed a new national day celebrating Indigenous Australians. The announcement comes after another council has decided to stop holding citizenship ceremonies on January 26. 

Scott Morrison criticised the move of Byron Shire council in Sydney as 'indulgent self-loathing' after it became the third council in Australia to cease citizenship ceremonies on Australia day.
