Skies are mostly clear to partly cloudy with a light east to southeast breeze, enough to ripple the water but not to make boat positioning hard. That cooler night followed by a fast warm‑up is waking the predators up right after sunrise, then again in the late afternoon when the sun eases off.

Fish activity the last couple of days has been strong for **peacock bass (tucunaré)** and **piranha**, decent for **pacú**, and hit‑or‑miss but explosive for **dourado**. If you’re fishing bait, fresh river shrimp and small strips of fish are doing the work. Shrimp on small circle hooks for pacú around submerged branches and fruit‑dropping trees, and fish strips or whole small baitfish for piranha and the occasional catfish on deeper holes. Steel or at least heavy fluorocarbon leaders are a must with all the teeth around here, especially if you’re targeting piranha or dourado.

A couple of hot spots to keep in mind:

First, the side channels and bays off the main Paraguay near Porto Jofre – work the mouths of those corixos where clear water meets the main flow. Second, the lagoon complexes and slow backwaters near Cáceres: perfect for numbers of tucunaré and pacú, plus endless piranha if you just want action. Any bend with submerged wood and a bit of depth change is worth a few casts.

Sunrise comes early over the campos, with first light just before 6 and the sun clearing the horizon shortly after. Sunset is around 5:30 in the evening, with that golden, low‑angle light that gets the predators moving in the shallows. Your prime bite windows are the first two hours after sunrise and the last two before dark, with a noticeable midday lull once the sun is high and the water heats up.

We don’t have ocean tides here in the interior, but the Paraguay and Cuiabá river levels are slowly dropping, tightening up side channels and concentrating fish in deeper bends, junctions, and the mouths of corixos. As the water pulls back from the flooded fields, baitfish are forced into the main flow and every hungry mouth in the river is waiting for them.

Recent catches have been strong.
