Wally Ingram, Tom Freund, and Stevie Blacke  are Spadei.  Their new record is Left Right Here.

Wally, Tom, and Stevie, are all accomplished musicians who have played with so many musicians you listen to, you have heard all of their work already whether you knew it or not.  Among the many people he’s played with, Wally was a member of Timbuk3. Tom’s credits includes playing with Elvis Costello, and Stevie has also played with so many greats including Rihanna. Their credits are too many to list here.

The new record is intentional healing music with roots in rock, blues, bluegrass, R & B, and more.  You’re going to love it.  It’s great to sink into, or as background while you do your thing. Enjoy this conversation about what inspired this music!

Derek Vanderhorst is probably someone you’ve never heard of, but if you watch movies you have heard his work as a Sound Engineer/Designer/Mixer in films like Hidden Figures, No Country for Old Men, Terminator: Dark Fate, and many more.

Derek experienced a life threatening health crisis a few years ago, which he faced full-on, and it transformed his life.  Now he is writing songs every day, he has released his first album called  Wildflower, and is working on his second album.

In their conversation Derek and Baruch cover a lot of ground, from healing to societal challenges, and of course music!

Silent films traditionally have live musicians playing along with the film.  Alicia Svigals and Donald Sosin have been working together creating music and performing along with silent films depicting the plight of Jews in Europe in the early 20th Century. The three films they have scored so far are City Without Jews, The Ancient Law, and Man Without A World.

Alicia Svigals is a mover and shaker in the Klezmer revival movement. Donald Sosin has been creating music, including but not limited to music for silent movies for many years.  They met at a film festival in Italy and since then have been composing and playing for these historical films.

Silent films are their own art form.  The role the music plays is very different than in “talkies.”  If you’ve never experienced a silent film, it’s a lot of fun, and may surprise you with the artistry and effectiveness.

The conversation explores Alicia and Donald’s inspirations, and examines why these films are important now.

Freebo is a folk, rock and blues icon, with over 45 years of recording and touring. If you’ve gone to concerts in the last 45 years and seen any of these folks, Bonnie Raitt in the 70’s and 80’s, CSN, Maria Muldaur, John Mayall, Ringo Starr, Dr. John, Neil Young, and more, you’ve probably seen and heard Freebo. He is still playing fretless bass, but now you’re just as likely to see him playing an acoustic guitar. Freebo has 5 solo albums and plays on many many records as part of the band. He is currently producing Alice Howe‘s new record Circumstance which drops April 21, 2023. He’s also finishing up a new album of his own, coming soon!

Freebo is a person who loves connecting, collaborating, creating, learning.  In the interview he describes his life journey, and how it has brought him to this point where he is writing songs that are both personal and universal. His music is intimate in that he is right there offering what he has learned, his questions, and his humanity, to the listener.

Christopher Briscoe has been taking photographs for most of his life and has published a number of books of photos. The new book is The Child on the Train: And Other Stories in War-Torn Ukraine, photos taken during Chris’s journey to Ukraine a few weeks after the Russian invasion in 2022. The photos and accompanying writing tell bits of stories of some of the people enduring this latest atrocity.

In this episode we feature the author of the new book American Metaphysical Religion: Esoteric and Mystical Traditions of the New World. Ronnie Pontiac is a musician, producer, and scholar. He worked as Manly P. Hall’s research assistant, screener, and designated substitute lecturer for seven years. Ronnie is a founding member and primary guitarist of Lucid Nation, executive producer of the documentaries Rap is War, Exile Nation, and the award winning animated short Cohen on the Bridge. He has written for Invisible College Magazine,  Newtopia,  Metapsychosis, Occult of Personality, and Reality Sandwich.

The book examines the history of religion and spirituality in what became the United States, focusing on the role of metaphysics, from before the European invasion to the present. The historical perspective allows for examination of current trends in religion, including the evangelical extremism that is gripping parts of the nation.

The new record stands in sharp contrast to their previous record Short-Sighted People In Power which is a political powerhouse recorded during the Covid-19 lockdown.
