  • Sarah Aroeste – New Music “Monastir”

Sarah Aroeste returns to Paradigms to share her current  project. Sarah has been exploring her Sephardic roots for much of her life; the culture, the music and the nearly extinct language Ladino.  In this new record, and the subsequent videos, Sarah has gone to Macedonia, to the town once known as Monastir, to delve into that which survived the genocide of the early/mid 20th century.  While very few Jewish people now live in the region, there has been an outpouring of love and appreciation for the Jewish life that was once a thriving part of the region.  Sarah tells us about her experiences, which are fascinating, and offer models for healing in communities torn apart by bigotry and extremism.

The new record Monastir is a collection of songs, old and new, curated and some composed by Sarah, performed by a collection of artists.  This project offers a glimpse into the past and hope for the future, keeping in mind that “Hope is a verb with its sleeves rolled up.” – Matthew Fox

Sarah has a passion for sharing music and stories.
