Steph Pappas is a Burlington, Vermont based musician, sometimes referred to as “Hendrix’s little sister.” Steph has been playing music since she was 16.  Steph has been making CDs and touring for many years, most recently in support of her new CD Jellyfish. Steph’s music was featured in the 2013 movie release called Freedom & Unity: The Vermont Movie, filmed & produced by Nora Jacobson.  This concert was recorded “live” in the cooperav studio on November 3, 2015.

Sam Gleaves is a man in his early 20’s from western Virginia. He plays guitar and banjo, singing traditional and original compositions that reflect his Appalachian upbringing. Sam’s music is beautiful, topical, and stirring. His story is inspiring. Sam has just released his first CD “Ain’t You My Brother” so we will hear selections from the CD as well as from some of Sam’s musical mentors.

Rural Urban Framework (RUF) is one of the 2015 winners of the Curry Stone Design Prize. RUF principals Joshua Bolchover and John Lin talk about their work, the objective of which is to engage in the rural-urban transformation of China through built projects, research, exhibitions and writing. We’ll be listening to some contemporary Chinese music as well as some traditional Shamanic chanting from Mongolia!

Frontline SMS was a winner of the 2011 Curry Stone Design Prize.  In this episode we speak with the inventor of Frontline SMS, Ken Banks, as well as Sean Martin McDonald who runs the Frontline SMS organization now, and Laura Walker McDonald who works with Frontline SMS users through the Social Impact Lab.

Frontline SMS allows users to create a secure SMS (Text Messaging) network using a computer and a cell phone.  Frontline SMS has been used by people around the world to monitor elections, transmit medical data, assist in disaster situations,and help activists have secure communications.
