We continue checking in to haunted hotels in Colorado. Just a stones throw away from the Black Monarch (featured in last weeks episode) is the Victor Hotel, then in Colorado Springs we visit the Broadmoor. Both are beautiful lodging locations and home to resident spirits, intense paranormal activity and so much more.

This illustration comes from an 1851 book by Paul Feval titles "Les Tribunaux secrets" and was created by René de Moraine. It shows the traditional East European method of eliminating presumed vampires, by exhuming the suspect corpse and driving a wooden or iron stake through its heart. The engraving also shows a fiery explosion coming out of the vampire (depicted here as a "clean" skeleton, with all signs of decomposition already gone), an element sometimes present in Belarussian and Ukrainian folklore (for example in Adam Mickiewicz's poem "Upiór").

The year is 1942. Private Gerald Mauro is in his least favorite place - Fort Sill, Oklahoma. But during these letters he finds himself in a different setting, this time being in Camp A.P. Hill, located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where, in his words, he "finally gets a taste of Army life"

Public executions took place on the roof of Horsemonger Lane Gaol with hopes that hopes that locals or future wrong doers would get the clue not to do something that can possibly land themselves on the gallows.

Ernie was a loving family man, a father, a grandfather. Dapperly dressed, he was a veteran, a golfer, karaoke man, a bowler and so much more. Throughout the years, Tessa would visit her grandfather in Arizona, and often times recorded their conversations. Always taking the opportunity to ask him questions about his life, and he shared many moments including his time as a medic during the Second World War.

In this episode you will hear some of those conversations, between grandfather and granddaughter. Res in peace grandpa. When he passed away he was just a few weeks shy of turning 102.
