Today, Lara sits down with Kathy Simon, a registered Speech Language Pathologist and founder of Simon Says Speech and Alberta Therapy Co., based in Edmonton, Alberta. From understanding key speech and language milestones, to the importance of reading to your child, Kathy and Lara cover it all. Plus, Kathy shares practical strategies parents can use at home to support their child's speech development.
Kathy's journey into Speech Language Pathology began at Western University and took her to northern Ontario, where she worked with diverse communities, including remote Indigenous populations. This experience shaped her family-centered approach to therapy. In Edmonton, she worked with preschoolers and children with complex communication needs in the education system and with the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society.
In 2020, Kathy founded Simon Says Speech, which has grown into the multidisciplinary Alberta Therapy Co., offering a range of therapeutic services for families. Kathy is passionate about helping families navigate the variety of therapeutic services they may need, including psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy, registered dietitian services, pediatric physiotherapy, child life specialist support, and behavioural consulting.
