As a parent to a now adult child diagnosed with ADHD, Lisa shares both her professional and personal experience and lessons she learned through her journey. Together, Lisa and Bryce talk about: how to help shift our mindsets as caregivers to neurodivergent children, handle difficult choices, advocate for your child, and handle not only the challenging behaviors that can be present with neurodivergent children, but also the overwhelm and overstimulation that often affects the parent in these situations.

Lisa Sheinhouse is the Director of Community Programs at Ohel. In this role, she is responsible for a variety of the organization’s day and community-based programs to support individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health conditions like autism. An IDD expert, blogger, and mom, who has walked the winding, often chaotic road of parenting a child with ADHD and made it through with grit, grace, and a good sense of humor.

Every day, Lisa aims to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve their goals. As a mom to a child with ADHD, Lisa often provides her perspective and best practices to media publications and hosts her own blog, “Retrain Your Brain,” on Psychology Today. Prior to Ohel, Lisa worked at Touro College as an academic advisor where she helped students with academic issues choose their career paths. For the last 15 years, she has served as an adjunct professor within the school’s psychology department, where she also earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of school psychology.

Lisa has turned her real-life experiences into a mission: to help other parents feel seen, supported, and hopeful for the future. From school struggles to vacation expectations, she’s been there, and now, she’s here to share honest advice and the kind of insights you only get from living it day by day.
