Studies show that it makes a difference how often you practice gratitude. Practicing gratitude every week can produce wonderful results for you and your health, according to the book Thanks! By Robert Emmons, when boosted to a daily routine. At this rate, the practice of gratitude directly affects your relationships, how helpful you are, and the number of positive emotions you experience.
In this episode, we will talk about obstacles to gratitude and the Negativity Bias. Don't forget to download your weekly Gratitude Mantra at ParentDifferently.com.
I reference Barbara Friederkson's study that shows that experiencing small amounts of positive emotions throughout your day helps to encourage more positive emotions to occur -watch her explain it all here.
And the myth about how long it takes to establish a habit is a 2009 study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, and you can read more about it here.

We get into the benefits of gratitude in this episode - specifically, benefits that will help moms like you address your self-doubt, loneliness, and worry.
I talk about cultural mindsets and how mine was shaped growing up in New England. We also get into caregiver burnout, red flags, and how to become more present - present enough to begin to notice thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in the moments they happen and not after they are over.
P.S. Did you know that Mom-Guilt is actually shame and not guilt!?
Don't forget our success equation:
Intention + Attention + Action + Repetition = Results

Here's the quote from Brene Brown on Shame I reference on the pod:
"Shame is the intensely painful feeling or experience of believing that we are flawed and therefore unworthy of love, belonging, and connection."
And the parenting book that is an excellent read once you're ready to get back into parenting books is: The Power of Showing Up by Daniel Siegel M.D. and Tina Payne Bryson Ph.D.
I also mentioned Intensive Parenting, and this is a very in-depth and relatable article on that as well: The Relentlessness of Modern Parenting.

We all need a 'Pep Talk' that we can rely on when gentle parenting is not going so well or when things may feel overwhelming and burdensome (I see you, toddlerhood!) And so this is your Pep Talk, Mama. Turn it on and remember just how brave and amazing you already are.

Yep - I said it, let go of being a better parent. It's time to find your true intention - your WHY - because even if your identity feels lost, it's still there, Mama.
We are gonna dig into my favorite equation for self-growth in this episode:
Intention + Attention + Action + Repetition = Results ❤️
Your homework for this week:
1️⃣ Download the Gratitude mantra at http://parentdifferently.com/
2️⃣ Write down some of the things you say on repeat and assess them with no judgment.
3️⃣ Set your intention. What is underneath your desire to parent differently? What is your WHY?
I quote one of my favorite Gratitude researchers Dr. Robert Emmons, and you can find out more about his work here.
And I also quote my favorite meditation teacher Jack Kornfield.
