The original outpouring of the Spirit - the very person, presence, and power of God - upon the church on Pentecost is narrated in Acts 2. This sermon explores several details in this text that point to the work of the Spirit in creating a unified, multicultural community and calls the church to be eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

We study the poignant interaction between Jesus and Peter in which Jesus asks Peter three times, "Do you love me?" Their interaction gives us a further glimpse into the task of the church and the life of a disciple. This is the final sermon in our series on the Gospel according to John.

This story of the miraculous catch of fish in the epilogue of John's gospel points us to the task of the church. As we take up this task, we are also shown how we will encounter Jesus and what he will give to us to sustain us along the way.

John's narrative has led to the confession of Thomas in the preceding passage, "My Lord and my God!" Now, John pulls out of the narrative and tells his readers that his purpose in writing this book is to encourage this Thomas-like faith in Jesus. This sermon explores the dimensions of this faith, a faith that brings us the fullness of life.

Thomas serves as the fact-checker for the gospel of John and all of redemptive history and declares the resurrection of Jesus Christ to be real news.
