Acts 2:37-47

37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[d] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Do not quench the Spirit

What are the effects of quenching the Spirit?

1. Stops Transformation and starts preservation.

2. Stops Devotion (passion and vibrancy) and starts Apathy.

3. Stops Holiness and starts SIN.

4. Stops Creativity and starts Reality (it is what it is)

5. Stops Impartation and starts Stagnation

Christianity can seem awkward and intimidating at first. Especially when we compare our journey with others around us. And then there are all these confusing words like Salvation, Water Baptism, baptism in the Holy Spirit and Sanctification.

What does it all mean?

Apostles = Sent Ones (by God)

Apostles, trailblazers, go into communities and bring the move of God that is designed for that region.

Acts 2:42-43

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.

Luke 10:17-18

When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, "Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!" 18 "Yes," he told them, "I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning!"

There has to be certain atmospheric conditions for lightning to take place ... there's got to be a storm. If you want to make a difference in your community and see the lightning fall, you cannot be afraid of the storm.

Devoted means to strongly follow, strongly persist in and to be totally committed to.

God intends us to come alongside one another in fellowship. That involves more than acknowledging the person's presence. It means recognizing and connecting with those who gather for worship.

What causes the church to grow isn’t just the miracles but the fellowship.

• Church was never meant to just be a Sunday thing.

• You were never meant to go at in alone.

• The growing of your walk actually takes place during fellowship.

• Your whole life should be given to hospitality.

Acts 2:40-47 40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church[b] daily those who were being saved.
