San Diego Sheriff's Detective Benny Cruz discusses his patrol experience working in East San Diego County. Detective Cruz worked at the Santee Patrol Station, where he worked in the city of Santee, Lakeside, and unincorporated El Cajon. While working the Lakeside beat, Cruz had numerous contacts with members of the Hells Angels, KKK, and other White Power Groups. Cruz talks about radion calls to the infamous Lakeside Hotel, the numerous meth labs he responded to, a Murder for Hire investigation which crossed international borders, and the Escondido Bomb House. The Escondido Bomb House was a rental home in Escondido, California (San Diego County), that was filled with homemade explosives and chemicals. On November 18, 2010, a gardener was injured by stepping on an explosive in the yard of the house. The San Diego Sheriff's Department Bomb/Arson Unit responded but abandoned their search after finding a large amount of explosive materials, including detonators, grenades, and chemicals used by suicide bombers.
