  • Episode 156: Jose Salazar of Los Kombi [Indie Rock] (Apple Valley, CA)

    This week’s episode features Jose Rios from the indie rock band Los Kombi out of Apple Valley, California. I came across his music on the Indie Music Feedback subreddit and wanted to get him on the show. Los Kombi has an impressively polished west coast indie rock sound for a band that only recently formed during the pandemic. They just uploaded their first Spotify release called “Beverly” which we discussed in the interview. As well as Jose’s recording process and some of the things he’s learned over the past few years. The band has a show this Friday in Oldetown Victorville at 8pm, details for which will be on the flier on IG. I also listed the links for Los Kombi below in the episode description. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.

  • Episode 155: Demi The Daredevil [Alt/Pop] (Austin, TX)

    Episode 155 features Demi the Daredevil frontman Jeff Azar from Austin, TX. They describe their sound as alt/emo/pop and I would add that they certainly have a touch of theater in their sound. They have been making music since 2017 and have eclipsed over 4 million Spotify streams thus far. In our conversation we discussed our mutual interests in certain authors, Austin area landmarks, TX2, mental health, and the tragic events that lead Jeff to take the reins as lead singer of the band. I featured the band’s latest release called “Withering Heights.” If you are in the Austin area Demi will be playing a show tonight (Friday the 23rd) @Empire Control Room & Garage in Austin. We also talked about their upcoming date at Sounds at the Farm 10/29 in MO. Which features Wheatus on the bill. Anyway, thanks for listening and supporting local music. Have a good weekend.

    Episode 154 features my new friend Jack O’Connell from Baltimore. He is a producer, engineer, and mixer, as well as a drummer. I featured his website in the episode description. We had a well-rounded conversation about his background in music and his style of producing. I featured 2 songs of his on this episode, including “Trevor (I Could be Anyone for You)” by his band with his brother, Backyard Games, as well as a cover of nothing,nowhere that Jack produced and drummed on called “Hopes Up” with ThonggDeLonge. If you are interested in finding a new producer or looking for a drummer, definitely hit Jack up. Thanks for listening and supporting local music!

  • Episode 153: The Big Laird Band (Brett & Matt) [Hard Rock] {Baltimore, MD}

    Episode 153 features my long time friend Matt “The Big Laird” Harris. This is his second time on the show. Matt and I have been playing in cover bands for the last 10 years now but have yet to record any original music together until now. We recently released a video for a new song called “5 Shots In” which we shot at Cult Classic Brewing. We had a fun conversation after a show the other night surronding the back story behind the song as well as a bunch of other stuff, including Matt’s background in swimming and underwater training, which apparently helps with singing. If you like the song or want to check out the video I added the links in the episode details. Our next two shows are listed below. I’d also like to thank Ashley, Connor, Mike, and Rohry for helping with the video. As well as Felix at The Hanger Studio on the audio production. Thanks for supporting local music.

Matthew has also recently been releasing his own music under the stage name Mattew Edward Butterfly. I dropped the links to his stuff in the episode description. We had a fun conversation about Pasadena’s start back in the day, Joey Harkum, Matt’s input on songwriting, and also touched on some of the recent reunion shows that the guys have been doing. I featured Matthew’s song “Gone Cold” and Pasadenas track “Cultivate.” Both of which you can find anywhere you listen to music. You can check out Pasadena’s next show at Rehoboth Ale House Live on the Mile October 9th. Thanks for supporting local music and community.
