This set has been updated by removing two Jingle Bells' and 'Santa Clause Is Coming To Town' versions and 'White Christmas was moved to a different location for better flow and cohesion.

Well HO! HO! HO! After careful consideration as to what I will likely do next year — I decided to go ahead and mix-up this batch of modern-day holiday classic dance remixes for everyone's enjoyment. Well, maybe not everyone.

This special edition EDM set features a variety of genres including: Electro House, Dubstep, Trance, Trap, Hip-Hop, House and even Eurodance. It's quite a bit to digest and may not be for everyone but that's why Party Favorz has years of holiday remix sets that may be more to your liking in our back catalog.

I listed to the original mix yesterday and was impressed at how I was able to get such a diverse group of songs at wildly different BPM(s) to mesh cohesively. One of the tricks is to duplicate a few songs like "All I Want For Christmas,' 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,' and 'Last Christmas.' To be certain there were multiple copies of 'Jingle Bells' (a song I've always hated mainly for its lack of structure) 'Christmas, Baby Please Come Home' (one of my all-time favorites especially by Darlene Love and U2) and others but in the spirit of trying to keep this set short and sweet — I went with what worked. My only disappoint was no remix of 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,' where the version by the Pretenders has special meaning to me. There was a decent remix of the Lou Rawls' jazzed up version but I couldn't make it work.

Overall, I'm glad I did this even though it's a one-off. Some of the songs will be included in next year's 'ULTIMATE' X-mas Dance set — especially the illusive dance mix of 'Happy X-mas (War Is Over)' by John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band. I stumbled across this remix late last year and stowed it away for a rainy day and I'm pleased as punch to have stumbled across it.

Originally, I had three bonus sets scheduled for November then whittled it down to two but I was a overwhelmed with what was already on my plate so I dropped both and kept the Purple Disco Machine Legay set. I thought I'd give y'all a heads up that one of those sets is going to see the light of day by the end of the week. It's totally out of leftfield and wholly unexpected but it's going to be one epic party set worth your time. That's all I'm saying at the moment.

Party Favorz is wrapping up November with our annual X-mas Dance series and we've gone overboard to bring newer holiday sounds remixed for the dance floor along with fan favorites from over the years.

In fact, there was so many new remixes available — there was enough to make an EDM/Dance Club version but honestly, I'm petered out. That will be saved for the 2022 release.

This set leans heavily on the Circuit side because Dario Xavier released five holiday remixes coupled with one from last year I forgot I had. Jet Boot Jack released a remix for Diana Ross' version of 'This Christmas' (originally made famous by Donny Hathaway) and Joel Dickinson (a.k.a. Thee Werq'n Bitches and formerly one half of The Assembly with Billy Waters) had remixed The Carpenters' 'Merry Christmas Darling,' which I've had for a several years but never used because it was kinda dark but figured 'what the hell.'

Of course Houston's Dirty Disco dropped their annual holiday mix and this year's entry features Kiva on the Mariah Carey classic 'All I Want For Christmas."

The rest of the set was rounded out by favorites from over the years including alternate versions of many of those tracks rarely or never used in a set before.

Overall this is a solid effort that's bound to put a smile on the face of the most hardened Grinch.

The past 30 days have been pretty rough for me and it feels like I'm being pulled in multiple directions. Couple that with the typical holiday blues and I just need a little space for a bit. Don't even get me started over the exploding cases of Covid or the new variant discovered in Africa, which will be in your neighborhood before you finish listening to this latest set of holiday cheer. No, irony isn't dead on me [grin].

I've cut back my ambitions for December so here's what to expect: First up will be the annual Jingle Electric featuring the latest Dance Club tracks, Holiday Edition 2021 featuring the latest Circuit and Anthems tracks and then our Year In Dance featuring the biggest Dance songs of 2021. Finally, we'll cap the year off with the annual Blow Your Own Horn 2022, which is the ultimate New Years dance party mix that raises the roof and burns down the year that was before bringing us into a new one.

This set is jam-packed with EDM, House Music, Disco House, Bootlegs and Mashups with just enough spooky fun elements to fulfill its title.

The Spofitication of dance music

I have to say that it's becoming more difficult to compile these commercial dance sets since the shut down of venues across the nation. Typically I rely on a variety of factors to create these sets. First, I look at Billboard's Dance Club charts to see what other DJs across the country are laying down, I look at Beatport and Traxsource charts to see where underground and disco tracks are crossing over, I peruse the Billboard Top 100 for those commercial hits that weren't necessarily created for the dancefloor but some enterprising up and coming DJ has generated a masterful bootleg of, I look at YouTube music trends and of course I look at the DJ services internal charts to see what are the hottest tracks everyone is jumping on before they go wide scale.

Two other elements are my internal gut feeling about a song, which comprise about a 1/3 of all tracks included in a set and the Billboard Electronic Dance Music chart, which I have a love/hate relationship with. Much like the Billboard Top 100, this chart's rankings are heavily weighted towards streaming service plays form Spotify and Apple Music. The rest is based on sales and radio play both of which carry less weight. This has resulted in two things:

1) Many artists just release single after single generating buzz, play and revenue, while forgoing the traditional album release. In fact, boutique labels have developed a whole business model around this and many of these stellar tracks never make it into the DJ pool nor Beatport.

2) Bigger artists still put out albums because there's still money in sales both physical and non-physical. At the same time, they game the system by dropping everything at once flooding these charts with mediocre songs and a couple of stellar ones that may or may not even reach the top of those charts but still generates significant amounts of revenue for them. We've seen it with Drake and Chainsmokers. In particular, Chainsmokers are still a big draw but by dumping everything all at once, they end up with 12 songs on the Electronic Dance Music chart even though none are massive hits. It dilutes the chart and drowns stellar songs by new artists that struggle to break through.

The other end of this is that the songs on this chart rarely get remixes unless someone creates a bootleg. In fact, many aren't really dance songs at all so the entire chart is a bit of a mystery to me. After all, everything today is quantifiably Electronic Dance Music. The two biggest breakthroughs of 2020 on the chart that had crossover success are Imanbek's remix of Saint Jhn's "Roses" and Surfa Mesa's "ily (i love you baby)" — the latter generating stellar Future House remixes, which helped propel the song further. But, these are the exception and not the rule.

As such, most of these songs (and even the danceable ones) are more like radio edits and never get remixes. They're geared toward the Spotification of dance music for radio playback.
