Jeff chops it up with his friend Daniel “Dpalm” Palmer, a Mortgage Consultant and Editor at the MTR Network. Many of us wear multiple hats in our careers, and DPalm is no different. Jeff has known DPalm over 8 years bonding over comics and nerd culture so it was only right to pour out a little liquor and pay homage to the life of Chadwick Boseman. DPalm breaks down the Mortgage industry and what prompted him to transition from operations to mortgage selling, the value of owning vs. renting (and not the usual this or that discussion), the benefits of helping others attain their homeowners dream, the connection between playing as an offensive lineman and selling mortgages, What’s holding people back from buying houses, building a moral compass from Stan Lee comics, and how walking 8 miles a day went from a cathartic release to a lifestyle.

This week, we speak to Alain Patron, best-selling author and creator of the InvenTV Network, A platform where Black artists can tell their stories and share their talents. We celebrated the release of his 9th Book “Yes, We’re Haitian” with an intimate digital book release event. A night of art and culture. We speak about the inspiration behind the book, growing up Haitian, Haitian representation in the media, and how the story is relatable to anyone in the African Diaspora. We took it to the Skills Challenge and Story Time too.
We then took questions from the audience (1:20:00) where we discussed a wide range of topics, cracked jokes, and communed as one family. Given the atrocities of police brutality, murder, systemic racism, and every other ism against Black people that reached a fever pitch over the last week, I didn’t think it was right to release this on Friday. I do think we need as many outlets to enjoy ourselves, care for ourselves, and decompress from a demoralizing news cycle.
Blackness will NEVER be extinguished. It will only refine itself and prosper. The time is now. Listen and hear various tales from the children of Haiti and how the indelible mark of 1804 can bestow hope among Black people in America today. ✊
On this week’s show, Jeff chops it up with his good friend and blog era family THE Marcus Garrett to talk about Debt management. Marcus is the author of “Debt Free or Die Trying” and has helped a ton of folks (including Jeff himself) find efficient and effective ways to get out of debt hell. He’s also the host of the award-winning podcast Paychecks and Balances where he and Rich Jones help millennials make money, save money and get out of debt. Marcus tells the EPIC story of how he accrued almost $30K in debt in less than 72 hours (9:50), and when he knew shit got real (16:00). Marcus answers whether people should pay down debt during the COVID-19 crisis (21:50) with a hilarious sidebar about Corona virus vacation plans (23:50) and finessing work travel restrictions to escape the country before quarantine-mania ran wild (31:50). As part of his book, Marcus gives us his four-step D.E.B.T. Repayment plan (37:00). The key takeaway: Whatever plan you choose, stick to it and see it through. Consistency is key to debt freedom.
In the SKILLS CHALLENGE (38:50), Marcus extols the virtues of fundamentals and being a player with the system. During PASS THE MESSAGE (46:30), Marcus shares a hilarious anecdote of his father and how a remote controlled car influenced him to put in work for what he likes. For his CARE PACKAGE (53:00), reading and therapy with some good habits in between keep Marcus in the right state of mind and health. Last but not least, in MESS AROUND (59:25), Jeff proclaims Marcus is the first dude he ever heard claim to be undefeated at Monopoly and play the game at...house parties?!
