This week Liz & Vince tackle the art of saying ‘no’. As highly ambitious and driven individuals, it can be tempting to say yes to every opportunity that presents itself. The downside to saying yes, especially when we really mean no, is that we end up stretching ourselves too thin causing long term resentment and burnout. While it can seem selfish to say no, being choosy with where you invest your limited time and energy is the secret to being available for bigger and better opportunities. In fact, what is selfish is when we know we want to say no but instead opt to repeatedly push things out, even though we have no real intention of ever following through.
Gary Vaynerchuk himself identifies his own difficulties in saying no as The Yes Virus, which “is when you want to say yes to everything, when you feel like you can do everything, and most of all you don’t want to let people down, or you just want to check off a lot of boxes or accomplish a lot of things. Maybe you just wanna call it “big eyes”; you feel like you can consume all the chocolate cake.” Liz & Vince know The Yes Virus well, but both are learning the importance of saying no and the amazing impact it can have on productivity and mental wellbeing.

This week Liz & Vince take a deep dive into identifying and defining personal and professional values. These values, or personal rubric as Vince calls it, are the standards by which you shape your tribe and hire your team. If you run a business, it’s important to be crystal clear on your values when hiring so that your employees know how to win. Do you know your values? Are they aligned with your tribe? Do you find yourself letting others impact your own beliefs? The benefit of having clearly defined values is that it makes all future decisions that much easier.
In this episode you will learn:
Meredith TerHaar and Joe Graham of Growing with the Enneagram stop by for an in-depth discussion about the ancient personality wisdom tool. Through their coaching business, these two entrepreneurs school Liz & Vince beyond the standard introductory chatter and into some insider language. Understanding ourselves and understanding our teammates, partners, employees, and loved ones better will manifest in improved relationships and communication. Whether you’re new to the Enneagram or already deep into it like Liz, this episode offers an articulate and thorough view into the next layer of this age-old but ever-popular personality tool.
