Are there any sources outside of the Bible that mention Jesus or early Christianity? 

- Thallus 50-60 AD is a pagan scholar who writes about Jesus. 

- Phlegon Historian 80-140AD talks about Jesus; resurrection. 

- Cornelius Tacitus Historian 56-120 AD 

- Josephus 37-101 AD Jewish historian. 

- Pliny the Younger lived from AD 61-113 and was an influential lawyer and magistrate of ancient Rome. 

 - Suetonius official secretary of the Roman Emperor 121 AD.  

Five reasons the Bible is true. 

1. Written very early 

2. Multiple collaborations of different kinds of evidence. 

3. The story hasn’t changed. 

4. The authors lacked bias. Did the authors have any reason to lie? 

Bias comes down to one of three motives: Financial greed, sexual or relational lust, or power. Let’s run these three areas through the lives of the disciples. 

5. It matches and explains reality.

Courage: the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, without fear.

Spirit of fear definition: in the Greek the word is deilia. This word means cowardice or timidity. A person with a spirit of fear or timidity may shy away from proclaiming the gospel or upholding the truth of God’s word. This happens because of an impending sense of threat or danger whether it is real or imagined.

Four goals of the spirit of fear:

    2. To remove the belief we have power.

    3. Stop us from loving one another.  

    4. Keep us lazy and undisciplined.
