Sara got some really good financial news but she’s super bummed about the insurrection at the capitol, and Laura witnessed a terrible accident outside her house but she has a piano now. Then they get into listener-submitted controversial food opinons … and boy, are they interesting! Topics include pizza, hot dogs, soda, sandwiches and mac and cheese, but mayo and cherry tomatoes might just be the main stars. There’s a listener question about things to do in the evenings other than watching TV, and then we’ve got recommendations.

It’s the negroni episode! Laura loves her cat but she’s been stress eating, and Sara has to keep wearing her glasses for a bit longer but she’s enjoying Bridgerton on Netflix. This episode was recorded on New Year’s Eve, which was the perfect time to try a bunch of cocktails. The ladies are joined by Laura’s boyfriend, Luke, as they taste several variations of the Negroni and Laura provides some history of the drink. Then there’s a listener question about dinner parties before finishing with recommendations.

Happy New Year! More importantly, Happy 2021! Laura is annoyed that none of her Christmas packages showed up on time, but both ladies are enjoying that awkward, in-between time between Christmas and New Year’s, although Sara had her expectations way too high for what she could accomplish during her vacation from work. It’s time to pop some bubbly, because we’re looking back on our 2020 resolutions (oh boy), and also sharing our 2021 resolutions. Did we set the bar super low? You bet. Then we answer a listener question about how we’re taking care of ourselves in this “unprecedented time” before sharing recommendations.

We start things off with a mini review of Little Caesars deep dish pizza and also announce the winner of our giveaway, but then we get into salty-sweets: Laura misses planning travel in the dark winter months, and she’s gone into full Swifty mode with her excitement about the surprise release of Evermore by Taylor Swift. Sara has a rant about people asking her why she doesn’t have kids yet, but she bossed Christmas shopping this year. For the meaty part of this episode, the gals break down the insane examples of racism at Bon Appetit that came to light his summer. Then they talk to a loyal listener who has a complaint before offering their recommendations.

The gals are in the Christmas spirit! Sara’s salty this week is that the 2020 Holiday Season is WEIRD, but she’s also grateful for holiday movie season. Laura is mad at the sun for going down too early, but she’s reconnecting with her blog again. Then there’s an interview with the lovely Sarah Kieffer of the Vanilla Bean Blog about her new book, 100 Cookies. The ladies also chat with her about comfort baking, what it’s like to have a recipe go viral, the process of creating a cookbook, and her favorite guilty pleasure pizza. To wrap up, there’s a listener question about winter cocktails and recommendations.

We’re getting into it this episode! Sara’s tired of the Sunday Scaries but she’s thrilled about the Biden victory, and Laura discusses losing a coworker to Covid-19 and a calming new hobby. Then the gals get into politics, going over their personal political histories, the relationship to voting, issues they’re passionate about, the Biden-Harris victory, and recommend some political podcasts. They chase it all down with a boxed mac n cheese face-off. And then before ending with recommendations we’ve got a listener question about Thanksgiving foods.
Don’t forget about the giveaway going on through the end of November! To enter, just leave a review on Apple podcasts or tag a friend in an Instagram comment.

Laura is dealing with sinus problems, but she’s comforting herself with Harry Potter. Sara misses wearing her contact lenses, but is appreciating the lunchtime walk weather at this time of year. More importantly, we’ve got an interview with the lovely Erika of the blog “The Pancake Princess.” The gals chat with her about the bake off series on her blog, how her bake offs have changed during Covid times, as well as some of her travel experiences. Then there’s a listener question about hygge home updates, we’ve got recommendations, and Sara and Laura try to pronounce the word “gruyere.”
