Over the last five months, all of our lives have been changed in one way or another. Many familiar things have been stripped away and there is seemingly no end to the increase of voices that lobby for our daily attention. It’s easy to get distracted, especially in today’s world. However, the people of God must stay focused on what God has said and what God is doing or we will quickly become discouraged.
The writer of Hebrews wrote to a discouraged and distracted group that longed to go back to what was familiar rather than press on to what they were called to in Christ. While many things change there are those things that do not change, and our passage today reminds us of who we are, who God is, and how we can position ourselves to remain faithful to what matters the most. We must remember that when we surrendered to Jesus we entered a marathon that will require a certain mindset, specific training, and a constant focus with Jesus as our greatest example.
