  • Ephesians overview “ Many varied wisdom and grace (3:10), part 2.
    Thursday February 6, 2020
    Learning and understanding the much varied wisdom (Eph 3:10) of God and grace of God (1Pe 4:10) takes time and humility. And so, we spend some time on pride and humility again.
    The context of Peter's exhortation for us to be stewards of the manifold grace of God was the spiritual gift that we have received. We are not studying the spiritual gifts, but rather the humility required to operate in them.
    The Bible teaches that each believer receives a spiritual gift and it also differentiates between them in category. There is certainly overlapping types of work performed by each category and so it can be difficult to identify a category that God has placed you in, and this can frustrate some Christians. What is helpful is to understand that the Bible doesn't tell us to explicitly identify a gift before we...

  • Ephesians overview “ Many varied wisdom and grace (3:10).

    Christ said that there was nothing hidden that would not be revealed.
    Truly, when Christ died and was raised from death, a new day dawned, a new day began. It would be hard to imagine the magnitude of the changes that have taken place as a result of the cross. The new day is "the day of salvation" (2Co 6:2), and the blessings of "such a great salvation" (Heb 2:3) are so richly diverse that they cannot be neatly defined. Several pictures are needed to portray them.
    One such picture is of a reconciled family.
    Eph 3:4-7 And by referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it...

  • Ephesians overview “ Life with purpose (3:11), part 2.
    Tuesday February 4,2020
    The mystery is the life of Christ in the new humanity (sons, priests, ambassadors) empowered by truth and the HS; and guided by election and predestination.
    Eph 3:1-3
    For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles - if indeed you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace which was given to me for you; that by revelation there was made known to me the mystery, as I wrote before in brief.
    Eph 3:1-3
    Paul was made the steward of the mystery of Christ and the new humanity.
    Eph 3:4-7
    And by referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which in other...

  • Ephesians overview - Life with Purpose (3:11)
    February 2,2020
    We left Paul declaring that he was the least of all saints. We compared him with the disciples seated around the Lord's Passover or last supper who were debating over which of them was the greatest.
    Although Jesus had taught them the lesson many times, this time He would emphasize it through words and action. He would impress upon them in a way they could not mistake or ever forget that the least of them was the greatest, that the servant among them was the best. He was telling them that none of them were worthy or great and they were all the least it would be soon that they would have to live in that way if they were to fulfill the ministry that He was going to give them.
    Jesus strips us of our worth and still gives us wonderful blessing.
    For...

    The second Servant Song in Isaiah is in Isa 49:1-6.
    Isa 49:1 Listen to Me, O islands,
    And pay attention, you peoples from afar.
    The Lord called Me from the womb;
    From the body of My mother He named Me.
    Isa 49:2 And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword [near];
    In the shadow of His hand He has concealed Me,
    And He has also made Me a select arrow [far];
    He has hidden Me in His quiver [only revealed at the proper time].
    Isa 49:3 And He said to Me, "You are My Servant, Israel,
    In Whom I will show My glory."

    The Lord called Me from the womb;

    In none of the songs is the Servant a political figure. He does not free our hands and feet so much as He frees our minds, souls, and hearts into the freedom of that which is life...
