Ephesians; 1:4 - The calling of the elect, part 9: The called call upon a holy God.

The called also call upon the name of the Lord, Rom 10:12-14; 1Co 1:2. They call upon the Father, 1Pe 1:17.

This gets us right back to our priesthood. As the called, or elect, we have ascended through the heavens to the throne of the Father with our Lord. We approach that heavenly throne and call upon the Father and call upon His name.

In the doctrine of the election of the church age believer, our first point was a definition: God the Father elects believers to the life of Christ, and He did so before the foundation of the world.

Our second point was that every elected person is called to sanctification or living the life of Christ in time.

Eph 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Eph 1:19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.

Our sins and failures often diminish our hope in our calling. "Since I sin too much, I probably will not experience its fulness."

The thing that so often attacks and diminishes our hope in realizing the fulfillment of God's election, and thus walking in a manner worthy of it with awe and delight and joy, is our failures.

3g. The elect are called, beloved, and kept, Jud 1.

Since practically every use of the verb kaleo, to call, is in reference to the believer and the object of his calling, meaning the life that he was called to, we would confidently say that calling and election are closely related.

Fellowship with His Son - 1Co 1:9.

Pascal, a genius in mathematics and natural science, came to see that only in Jesus was the experience of life.

Man is far more than he can know about himself or his world, and so natural theologies and rationalistic philosophies are only, as Pascal puts it, "proud reasonings" attempting to order reality according to the laws of the mind. Without God man cannot know himself. Without Christ, man cannot know God.

Judas uses a triad here, of which he has fourteen in the book, which spells out what it means to be saved: called, beloved, and kept.
