  • Ephesians; 1:4 “ Election of church age believer, part 38. The elected priest.
    Sunday January 6, 2019
Title: Ephesians; 1:4 - Election of church age believer, part 38. The elected priest.
    Communion:
    Heb 5:1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins;
The Christ had to be a man in order to be our high priest, but He is much better than Aaron, since He is both offered and the sacrifice.
    Heb 5:2 he can deal gently [have compassion - similar word to "sympathy" in 4:15] with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness;
Heb 5:3 and because of it he is obligated to offer...

  • Ephesians; 1:4 “ Election of church age believer, part 37. Seeking help.
    Friday January 4, 2019
After his warning about the dangers of disobedience, the writer now turns to the priesthood.
Heb 4:14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
Our high priest is superior to any who came before Him. The writer is going to prove this with five contrasts between Jesus and the Levitical priesthood.
There are ten times more stars in the night sky then there are grains of sand in the world's deserts and beaches. Jesus has passed above them all and has taken you and I with Him.
We need to take advantage of the kind of high priest we have.
    Jesus, our high priest, has...

  • Ephesians; 1:4 “ Election of church age believer, part 36.
    Thursday, January 3, 2019
The Sabbath was a day of observance and celebration. It did not refer to zero work, but rather an unhindered opportunity for the people of Israel to celebrate God's life-sustaining presence among them.
Exo 31:12 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
Exo 31:13 "But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.
Exo 31:14 'Therefore you are to observe the sabbath, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people....

    Wednesday January 2, 2019
Ephesians; 1:4 - Election of church age believer, part 35.
The Hebrew word sabbat describes the enjoyment of accomplishment, the celebration of completion. This is the rest we must enter into.
The entire purpose of this letter to the Hebrews is to get these believers to enter the fulness of Promised Land rest.
Heb 4:1 Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.
Heb 4:2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not...

  • Ephesians; 1:4 “ Election of church age believer, part 34.
    Sunday; December 30, 2018
The Hebrew word sabbat describes the enjoyment of accomplishment, the celebration of completion. This is the rest we must enter into.
Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts.
Gen 2:2 And by the seventh day God completed His work which He had done; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
Gen 2:3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
In Gen 2:2, creation was finished and on the seventh day God's rest shows us that all has been planned and all has been done and that all will work out according to His good...

  • Ephesians; 1:4 “ Election of church age believer, part 33.
    Friday, December 28, 2018
The entire purpose of this letter to the Hebrews is to get these believers to enter the fulness of Promised Land rest.
Heb 4:1 Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.
"rest" - To cease from the struggles that come with disobedience.
Heb 4:2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.
Heb 4:3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,
"As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest,"
although His works were finished from the...

  • Ephesians; 1:4 “ Election of church age believer, part 32.
    Thursday December 27, 2018
The entire purpose of this letter to the Hebrews is to get these believers to enter the fulness of Promised Land rest.
Heb 4:1 Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.
"rest" - katápausis = to cease from activity (used 8 times in Heb 3-4). To cease from the struggles that come with disobedience.
It is a consecration rest in the subjection of one's mind, will, and heart to God's power and way, enabling one to conquer sin.
This is certainly not meaning that we are to cease from all activity. Rather, it means to cease from the struggles that come with disobedience. Every disobedience brings a...

    Wednesday December 26, 2018
Ephesians; 1:4 - Election of church age believer, part 31.
    Context of Heb 4:14-15:
    Heb 2:14 Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Heb 2:15 and might deliver those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
Heb 2:16 For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham.
Heb 2:17 Therefore, He had to be made like His...

    Sunday December 23, 2018
    Truth will set you free
"We don't ask about the truth, the truth asks about us." [Bonhoeffer]
The truth was born of a virgin in the town of Bethlehem.
Truth has become a bad word. In our modern world or post-modern, whatever stage of modern we are at, the truth cannot even be spoken if it offends the ears of anyone who hears. The great enlightenment (post-enlightenment) has given us the gem that there is no truth.
We (meaning the human race) hate the truth because the word itself speaks of absolutes, and absolutes may not agree with our worldview, and that insults us.
Everyone, as fallen sinners, eventually turns to lies and fails to practice the truth....
