  • Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 13.
Title: Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 13.
The film Darkest Hour, which is coming out in November of this year, and which is a movie about Winston Churchill, played by Gary Oldman, becoming Prime Minister and dealing with WWII got a rating of 5.4 out of 10. I was curious to see if it was actually not well made, and so I dug a little deeper. I found that people aged 18-29 gave it a 5.3 and people aged 30-44 gave it a 4.1, and that people aged 45 and over gave it a 9.0, with the females of that group giving it a 9.7 out of 10. I believe those statistics speak of our current culture.
Heb 8:6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.
Heb 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for...

  • Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 12.
Title: Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 12.
The time has come - the fullness of times, which is the incarnation of the Son of God. Believers are no longer children as they were in the OT, but are now all adult sons.
1Th 5:1 Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.
1Th 5:2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
1Th 5:3 While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like birth pangs upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
One of the many benefits of being sons is that we don't ever have to anticipate or fear judgment....

  • Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 11.
Title: Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 11.
Gal 4:1 Now I say, as long as the heir is a child, he does not differ at all from a slave although he is owner of everything,
Gal 4:2 but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by the father.
Gal 4:3 So also we, while we were children [nepios], were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world.
Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time came [incarnation], God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
Gal 4:5 in order that He might redeem those who were under the Law [a law], that we might receive the adoption as sons [placed as adult sons].
Rather, we live the ethics of the Mosaic Law as adults, whereas...

  • Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 9.
Title: Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 9.
Everything that is meaningful in life cannot be obtained in an instant. While it is true that salvation comes to a believer in an instant, the work done to make it a reality did not, and the realization and understanding of how profound salvation is does not come in an instant either. Things available to every person, believer or unbeliever, like a relationship, job satisfaction, gaining a skill set do not come to them with a click of a mouse. They take commitment, hard work, and most of all time, perseverance, and patience. Things like these get messy and uncomfortable at times and for them to succeed, we have to push through the mess and the awkwardness, and often while we fall, fail, and feel very confused. The Christian way of life, the most important of all thing meaningful, is no different. It take years of plugging, climbing, groping, falling, and getting back up...

  • Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 8.
Title: Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 8.
We have broken away from Heb 8 for a time in order to understand the minor of the OT vs. the adult son of the NT church and future Millennium of Israel.
Gal 4:1 Now I say, as long as the heir is a child [infant], he does not differ at all from a slave although he is owner of everything,
Gal 4:2 but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by the father.
Gal 4:3 So also we, while we were children [nepios], were held in bondage under the elemental [foundations of law for Jew and Gentile] things of the world.
Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time came [incarnation], God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
    "sent forth" -...

  • Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 7.
Title: Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 7.
I read a number of headlines today centering around politics and social issues in America that basically spoke of who offended who and who needs to apologize. None of it had any substance about policy, needed changes in legislation, or arguments for right and wrong that are based on true ethics. I don't expect something like the Federalist Papers, but there was nothing even close. I also read about our former President hosting a world summit for future leaders in which he states something like, "I did say I could change the world, but you could." He and the agenda of those like him are not going away. I read about a presidential candidate who lost and then proceeded to blame everyone but herself. I've never seen anything like that past second grade. I read of a desecrated monument to Francis Scott Key claiming that the national anthem was racist. I also...

  • Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 6.
Title: Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 6.
Not only does the NT use the term New Covenant, but it also uses quotes from the New Covenant given in the OT.
We noted the Lord's use of the term to describe the cup of the Lord's Supper and Paul's use of the term to the Corinthians when referring to the Christian being a manifestation of Christ with the law of Christ written upon his heart by the Holy Spirit.
We must always keep in mind that the New Covenant is unconditional and was made with Israel and will only be fulfilled by Israel. If there is one New Covenant as opposed to two, the church still does not fulfill it, but only that the spiritual blessings of the NC have been extended to the church.
The New Covenant of Jer 31:31-34 is quoted in Heb 8 in order to...

Title: Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 5.
We pray for our friends and royal family and Florida.
Luk 21:25 "There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves,
Luk 21:26 men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
Psa 107:28 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
And He brought them out of their distresses.
Psa 107:29 He caused the storm to be still,
So that the waves of the sea were hushed.
    Psa 107:30 Then they were glad because they were quiet;
So He guided them to their desired...

  • Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 4.
Title: Doctrine of the New Covenant, part 4.
Gal 3:6 Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.
Gal 3:7 Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham.
The Judiazers were under the impression that if anyone was to participate in the blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant, justification, they had to be inducted into Judaism by circumcision.
Gal 3:8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify [present tense: God justifies] the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham [long before he was circumcised], saying, "All the nations shall be blessed in you."
By the use of the word "and," Paul asserts that the blessing of Abraham, namely, the one he received from God,...
